Zuckerberg Shares AI “Personal Superintelligence” Vision

In a letter released Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg said they’ve seen early signs of their “AI systems improving themselves,” adding that “developing superintelligence is now in sight,” and shared his goal of bringing the technology to everyone.

Details:

  • Zuckerberg said he wants AI to be a tool for “personal empowerment,” something that helps you achieve your goals, create what you want to see in the world, and more.

  • He emphasized that Meta’s approach differs from other tech companies, who “believe superintelligence should be directed centrally towards automating all valuable work.”

  • He also expanded on his bullish vision for smart glasses, writing that these personal AI-powered devices will become humanity’s “primary computing devices,” and that people without AI glasses may be at a disadvantage in the future.

  • Lastly, he also included a warning about being careful with what companies choose to open-source, which coincides with recent speculation and reports that the company may drop its current approach and focus on closed models going forward.

This comes after Meta’s multi-million-dollar hiring spree and AI acquisitions, including a recent $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI. Some critics point to the company’s history of spending big on new tech, like the metaverse, which has already lost over $60 billion. The next few years will show whether this big spending pays off.

FABLE

Amazon-backed Showrunner Set to Launch the “Netflix of AI” Platform

Fable, a startup backed by Amazon and founded by veterans from Oculus and Pixar, is launching an AI-powered streaming platform called Showrunner, which CEO Edward Saatchi describes as the “Netflix of AI.”

Details:

  • The public launch includes two original “shows” — story worlds with characters that users can guide through different narrative arcs.

  • At the core of the platform is SHOW-2, the company’s proprietary AI model capable of writing, animating, voicing, editing, and producing full TV episodes.

  • Users can generate animated shows with just a text prompts — and even upload a selfie to insert themselves as a character.

  • The company first gained attention two years ago with viral AI-generated South Park episodes, which racked up over 80 million views.

Showrunner is currently in alpha, and anyone can sign up to join the waitlist at Showrunner.xyz, where over 100,000 users have already queued up. The platform will be free to use during this phase, but the company plans to eventually charge creators $10–$20 per month for credits to generate content.

The multiyear agreement gives Amazon access to content to train AI models and feature Times excerpts in its products.

The startup is nearing a deal to raise between $3 billion and $5 billion in funding, valuing the startup at $170 billion — nearly tripling its last valuation.

The new feature is expected to go live within the week for advanced subscription users paying $199 per month. It will allow the system to call on a large number of AI agents to handle complex tasks in parallel, enabling synchronized processing of large-scale data.

British firm Nscale will design and build the site as part of a 50-50 joint venture with Norwegian energy infrastructure company Aker, while OpenAI will be an “off-taker” — buying capacity from the data center.
