Gen AI subscriptions continue to grow rapidly, driven primarily by higher-income households, while subscribers are also spending more each month.
Despite the rapid growth, consumer AI subscriptions remain far from mainstream, with just 2.2% of U.S. households paying for a generative AI service as of May 2026.

Roblox Launches AI-Powered Game Creation on Its Mobile App

Roblox has unveiled Build, a new AI-powered feature that lets anyone create a game on Roblox from their phone using simple text prompts, with no coding experience required.
Details:
Build can generate a playable game from a text description, automatically creating gameplay mechanics, environments, characters, visual styles, and sound.
Users can edit and customize the generated game before sharing it with friends, making game creation more accessible to beginners.
Roblox says the feature is powered by a combination of proprietary and open-source AI models, supporting a wide range of game creation tasks.
To help surface higher-quality experiences, AI-generated games will be ranked using Roblox's existing discovery system, which prioritizes player engagement and long-term retention.
Build will enter public alpha on July 28 for verified users in New Zealand aged 9 and older, with creators aged 16 and above able to publish games to the global Roblox community.
The announcement is part of Roblox's broader AI strategy, which also includes tools for generating 3D assets, and an AI assistant for developers.

When AI Knows Everything, What Should Humans Learn?
Kristina Kalla warns that if we don't radically change how we teach our kids, we risk triggering massive cognitive decline and "brain rot." Instead of banning AI in schools, Estonia is doing the exact opposite: they are handing custom AI tools to students in a bold, first-of-its-kind national experiment to force human intelligence to evolve.
Human Evolution Under Cognitive Pressure
Kallas argues that the rise of AI has placed humanity under severe evolutionary and cognitive pressure. The core challenge for the education system isn’t the technology itself, but how it fundamentally shifts the demands on the human brain.
The Energy-Saving Brain vs. The AI Era
The human brain naturally avoids heavy lifting. According to cognitive science, the brain operates in two distinct modes:
Lower Cognitive Mode (Autopilot): This mode focuses on memory, basic understanding, and repetition (like memorizing dates or riding a bike). Because the brain consumes massive amounts of body energy, it prefers this "autopilot" mode because it is energy-efficient.
Higher Cognitive Mode (Active Learning): This mode requires constant evaluation, analysis, and creation. It is incredibly energy-intensive, which is why intensive studying leaves people physically exhausted.
For the past 200 years, global education systems have lazily focused almost entirely on lower-order thinking: teaching kids to memorize, understand, and apply information just long enough to pass a test. But because AI can now handle lower-level data processing, automation, and basic literacy better than the average worker, hiding in lower cognitive mode is no longer an option.
The "AI Leap": Estonia's National Experiment
To prevent "cognitive offloading", where students simply let AI do all their thinking for them, Estonia launched a nationwide public-private partnership called the AI Leap program.
The Socratic AI Assistant: Rather than giving students a standard chatbot that spits out direct answers, Estonia collaborated with OpenAI to build a specialized, Socratic-style AI tutoring tool.
Forcing Higher-Order Thinking: The tool is explicitly designed not to give the answers away. Instead, it acts as a sparring partner that pushes students as young as 12 into higher-order cognitive processing—forcing them to analyze motives, evaluate ethics, and think critically.
The Evolutionary Choice: When technology advances, humans must undergo a cognitive evolutionary leap. Just as the invention of the printing press eventually forced universal literacy upon humankind, the AI era is forcing us to transition away from memorization and train our brains to constantly operate in high-level, creative, and systematic thinking.
