Google Chrome Gets Gemini Side Panel and Agentic Browsing Features

Google is expanding AI features inside Chrome as competition from AI-native browsers grows, adding a persistent Gemini sidebar and new agentic tools designed to handle tasks directly within the browser.

Details:

  • Gemini is moving from a floating window into a permanent sidebar, allowing users to ask questions about the current page or other open tabs without leaving their browsing flow.

  • The sidebar can group related tabs together as shared context, making it easier to compare products, prices, or information opened from the same source.

  • Chrome will soon integrate Google’s personal intelligence system, giving Gemini access to Gmail, Search, YouTube, and Photos so it can answer questions using a user’s own data or complete actions like drafting and sending emails.

  • A new Nano Banana feature will let users modify images they find online by combining them with other images or products while browsing.

  • Google is also introducing auto-browse, an agentic feature that can navigate websites on a user’s behalf to complete tasks such as shopping, finding discounts, or filling out forms, while pausing for confirmation on sensitive actions. The feature will roll out first to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S.

Gemini sidebar support and Nano Banana integration begin rolling out today, while deeper personal intelligence features are expected to arrive in the coming months.

TOGETHER WITH WISPR FLOW

Better prompts. Better AI output.

AI gets smarter when your input is complete. Wispr Flow helps you think out loud and capture full context by voice, then turns that speech into a clean, structured prompt you can paste into ChatGPT, Claude, or any assistant. No more chopping up thoughts into typed paragraphs. Preserve constraints, examples, edge cases, and tone by speaking them once. The result is faster iteration, more precise outputs, and less time re-prompting. Try Wispr Flow for AI or see a 30-second demo.

OpenAI's Sora Growth Stalls After Strong Start

After debuting at the top of the App Store last fall, OpenAI’s AI video app Sora is now showing signs of slowing growth, with recent data pointing to declining downloads and consumer spending as early excitement fades.

Details:

  • Sora launched with unusual momentum, passing 100,000 installs on its first day and reaching 1 million downloads faster than ChatGPT, despite being invite-only and limited to iOS at the time.

  • Since then, adoption has cooled. Downloads fell 32% month-over-month in December and dropped another 45% in January, even though the holiday season typically boosts app installs.

  • Consumer spending has declined as well, down 32% month-over-month in January, with total monthly revenue falling from December’s peak.

  • While the app has accumulated nearly 10 million downloads across iOS and Android and over $1 million in lifetime spending, its App Store rankings have slipped out of the top 100 in the U.S.

The decline came from several factors, including rising competition from rivals like the Gemini AI app and Meta AI, and increased copyright restrictions that prevented users from creating videos with popular characters like SpongeBob, the type of content that had initially driven the app's popularity. Still, the app could stage a comeback with new copyright deals or new features.

Turn ChatGPT Into a Personal Learning Coach

Go to ChatGPT and paste this prompt to turn it into your personal learning coach to master any topic:

You are an expert tutor, curriculum designer, and coach. I want to fully master [TOPIC] topic. Follow this exact process every time.

1. Clarify: Restate the topic in 1–2 sentences, list 3–5 sub-skills, and ask me to confirm or narrow (beginner / intermediate / advanced, and time available). If unclear, propose 2 versions.

2. Roadmap: After my confirmation, create a learning path with 3–6 stages (Foundations → Core Concepts → Applications → Mastery → Teaching).

For each stage give:
- goal in plain English
- key ideas/skills
- practice/action items
- estimated effort

3. Teach by chunks: Start with Stage 1 and teach in very small pieces using analogies and examples. After each chunk, give a quick check (2–4 questions). If I miss something, reteach it differently.

4. Active practice: Generate varied exercises: recall, explain like I’m 12, real-world scenarios, and “create something” tasks. Include one challenge slightly above my level.

5. Feedback & gaps: Evaluate my answers, point out misconceptions, and tell me exactly what to review.

6. Resources: Suggest 3–5 high-quality resources (article / video / book / tool) matching my level.

7. Progressive difficulty: Gradually increase complexity and integrate earlier concepts.

First message to me should be: summarize the topic, propose sub-skills, ask my level and time, then wait for my choice. Keep explanations concise, non-jargony, and outcome-focused. Limit to what I can actually do next.

The publishers say damages could exceed $3 billion, making it one of the largest non-class action copyright cases in U.S. history.

The plan ($7.99 per month in the U.S.), now available in 35 additional countries, includes access to Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro, AI filmmaking tools in Flow, research and writing features in NotebookLM, 200GB of storage, and more.

The British government has selected Anthropic to build an AI assistant for GOV.UK, led by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, with an initial focus on helping jobseekers get career advice, find training, and understand available programs.
