Google Is Sending AI Chips into Space
Google is preparing to launch an experimental satellite carrying its AI processors into orbit as part of Project Suncatcher, an experimental effort exploring whether AI computing could eventually be moved beyond Earth.
Details:
The satellite will carry Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and is scheduled to launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 on October 1.
The mission will test whether the chips can withstand the radiation, extreme temperatures, physical forces, and other conditions encountered during spaceflight.
Google will also test a cooling system using heat pipes and radiators, with the company currently expecting the chips to operate for around 15 minutes before needing to cool down.
The launch is an early test for Google's broader vision of deploying a constellation of AI-powered satellites that could eventually perform AI workloads in orbit using solar energy. Google also plans to launch two additional satellites next year and already has designs for fleets of more than 80 satellites that will fly in close formation and communicate with one another as they process AI.

META
Meta Expands Muse With Avatars, Glasses and Shopping
At the company's annual Connect event, Meta announced a slew of new capabilities and integrations aimed at making Muse more useful and more deeply woven into users' daily lives.
Details:
Muse will soon get a customizable digital avatar powered by Meta's Muse Realtime Avatar model, allowing users to have live video conversations with their AI agent.
Meta is bringing Muse to its smart glasses, where users will be able to activate the agent by voice. It will be able to guide workouts, log meals, book appointments, and help purchase products, with some tasks handled in the background.
Muse is also coming to Mac, allowing it to operate apps and complete delegated tasks while users are away from their computers.
Meta is developing a dedicated email address for Muse, allowing users to add the agent to email threads or forward messages for it to handle on their behalf.
The company is expanding Muse's shopping capabilities through partnerships with Stripe, Shopify, PayPal, and retailers including Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair. It is also adding connectors for services such as Expedia, GitHub, Notion, and Granola, with Instacart coming soon.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg closed the event by introducing Muse Charm, a “delightful and fun” device built for users to talk and interact with Muse. Though it isn't ready to ship just yet, he said it would be ready in time for the holidays in December.

The company has hired Patreon co-founder and former CTO Sam Yam to lead its Creator Product team, alongside Patreon's former product head Drew Rowny and engineering head Shannon Ma. Yam said the group will work on new tools for "creators and their communities."
Pinterest is testing “Restyle,” an AI feature that lets users upload photos of their rooms and visualize changes such as new furniture, decor, lighting, paint colors and different design styles. A wider rollout is planned next month after its initial U.S. and Canada preview.
An OpenAI AI agent gained unauthorized access to an Australian government Medicare statistics portal in June, accessing public and non public files, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Australia’s cyber security agency is investigating the incident.
The labels claim that Suno’s new v6 AI music model still benefits from copyrighted recordings used to train earlier models. They accuse Suno of “model laundering,” arguing that training v6 on outputs from previous models does not remove the alleged copyright infringement.
The open-weight “World Action Model” is designed to take camera observations, a robot’s current state and natural-language instructions and translate them into physical actions. The company says its 7 billion parameter model set a record on the RoboLab 120 leaderboard while running up to 3.95 times faster than the previous best open model.
