ALIBABA

Alibaba Launches Qwen3.8-Max, Its Largest AI Model Yet

Alibaba has officially released Qwen3.8-Max, its latest flagship AI model, claiming it can compete with leading systems from Anthropic, OpenAI, and other top AI labs.

Details:

  • With 2.4 trillion parameters, Alibaba says Qwen3.8-Max is its most capable model to date. The model's performance broadly matches, and sometimes exceeds, that of Fable 5 on benchmark tests, excelling in areas including coding, research, long-horizon tasks, and visual understanding.

  • On the Arena text model leaderboard, it trails only Fable 5 and three models in Anthropic's Opus family.

  • The open weights of Qwen3.8-Max will be released next week, marking Alibaba's return to open-sourcing its top-tier AI models after keeping several recent flagship releases proprietary earlier this year.

  • Qwen3.8-Max is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, significantly cheaper than Fable 5 ($10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens).

Qwen3.8-Max arrives amid rapidly increasing competition between U.S. and Chinese AI companies, with both sides releasing increasingly capable frontier models over the past several weeks, and Chinese companies continuing to narrow the gap.

OPENAI

Unreleased OpenAI Model Solves Decades-Old Math Problem

OpenAI says an internal version of Astra, the company's next major model, has solved multiple long-standing mathematics problems, producing formally verified proofs that can be independently checked by software.

Details:

  • OpenAI says Astra generated machine-checkable proofs for 10 mathematical problems that had remained unsolved for at least a decade, spanning fields such as group theory, geometry, coding theory, cryptography, and combinatorics.

  • Every proof was formalized using the Lean proof assistant, and the certificate files were published on GitHub under an open license, allowing anyone to download them and run the checker.

  • Among the reported results are a counterexample to Connes' rigidity conjecture, an improved upper bound for high-dimensional sphere packing, and solutions to several open problems associated with mathematician Paul Erdős.

According to OpenAI, the successful proof generation cost roughly $2,000 in computing resources, highlighting how AI could significantly reduce the cost of mathematical discovery.

AI Tutorial

Use ChatGPT to Find Your Best Colors and Hairstyles

  1. Open ChatGPT and select Create Image.

  2. Upload clear photos of your face with good lighting.

  3. Paste this prompt:

Using this portrait, create a personal color analysis with a visual chart at the top. Show which clothing colors flatter the subject using visual comparisons, marking suitable colors with a green checkmark and unsuitable ones with a red X. Keep text to a minimum and avoid long paragraphs. Use the portrait to build the color palette. Then create a hairstyle analysis using the same portrait. Show hairstyle and haircut comparisons that highlight which styles suit the person and which should be avoided. Consider different hair colors, lengths, textures, and curls rather than only the current hairstyle. Make the infographic primarily visual, using short labels, green checkmarks for recommended styles, and red Xs for styles to avoid.

It's no substitute for a real stylist, but it's a great way to get a quick sense of what works for you.

Google has suspended a new Google Earth feature that let users generate AI images directly on top of satellite imagery after experts warned it could be used to create convincing misinformation. The company said it is pausing the tool to add stronger safeguards after users shared AI-generated images that appeared to violate its policies.

The company's latest speech-to-speech AI model comes with improved reasoning, transcription accuracy, and more natural conversations; it delivers faster responses, stronger multilingual transcription, and better real-world performance in noisy environments.

A San Francisco startup has launched a home cleaning service using humanoid robots, charging $30 per hour for selected customers. The robots, which are currently operated remotely with AI assistance, can perform basic tasks such as vacuuming and wiping counters, though experts say the technology is not yet ready to fully clean homes independently.

The company says it has surpassed one billion active users and now serves more than two million businesses, following recent price cuts across several of its AI models.

Google has canceled plans for a standalone Android app for Google AI Studio, opting instead to integrate its vibe coding capabilities directly into Gemini. The web version of AI Studio will remain available for users working on more advanced coding projects.
