OpenAI Releases GPT-5.2 to Take on Google and Anthropic
OpenAI has launched its new GPT-5.2 model, touted as its best yet for real-world, professional use, and is arriving as the company's "code red" response to the rising performance of Google's Gemini 3 Pro and Anthropic models. The new model is optimized for complex, multi-step projects and high-stakes knowledge work.

GPT-5.2 is designed to excel at professional tasks, including creating spreadsheets, building presentations, writing code, perceiving images, and handling complex, multi-step projects.
The most advanced version, GPT-5.2 Thinking, scored a perfect 100% on the AIME 2025 (a challenging math benchmark), significantly improving upon GPT-5.1's already high score of 94%.
OpenAI claims the Thinking version is 30% more factually accurate, leading to fewer mistakes in research, writing, analysis, and decision support.
The conversational version, GPT-5.2 Instant, offers clear improvements in info-seeking, how-tos, technical writing, and translation, while retaining a "warmer conversational tone."
The new system is being rolled out in three versions, Instant, Thinking, and Pro, and will be available first to users on the company's paid plans.

Open ChatGPT and start a new chat.
From the prompt-mode dropdown, choose Shopping Research. This enables follow-up Qs, web lookups, and product suggestions.
Start with a single short message that states the recipient, interests, budget, and occasion.
Example:
"I'm shopping for a 28-year-old sister who loves photography, indoor plants, and minimal design. Birthday gift. Budget $75."
ChatGPT will likely ask 2–4 clarifying questions depending on your prompt. Answer honestly to refine the results.
Follow-ups you might expect:
"Do they already own X or prefer a particular brand?"
"Any disliked colors, materials, or categories to avoid?"
"Ship to which country and how soon do you need it?"
ChatGPT will return a short list (usually 4–8 items) with Product name, Brief reason it fits the recipient, Key specs/features, Price range, and where to buy (links when possible)
Verify everything by clicking through links to confirm the price, availability, shipping costs, delivery date, and seller reliability through reviews or return policy.
Then use Agent mode (if needed) to add the chosen item to the cart and proceed to checkout manually.
