ANTHROPIC

Claude Fable 5 Helps Solve 87-Year-Old Math Problem

A long-standing mathematical conjecture that researchers spent decades trying to prove may have been disproven with the help of Anthropic's Claude Fable 5, surprising mathematicians around the world.

Details:

  • Harvard mathematician Levent Alpöge announced that he had found a counterexample to the Jacobian conjecture, an unsolved problem first proposed in 1939 that had resisted proof for nearly nine decades.

  • He credited his "close friend Fable" for assisting with part of the work.

  • The problem had such a reputation that famed mathematician T.T. Moh predicted in 2008 that a true solution could take human researchers 'another 100 years.'

  • Rather than proving the conjecture, the result shows it is false by presenting a compact mathematical counterexample that experts have reportedly been able to verify.

Researchers, like Abhishek Saha of Queen Mary University of London, say that while AI's recent advances in mathematics have been surprising, this latest finding raises the bar significantly. 'Probably this is the biggest conjecture that AI has played a significant role [in proving or disproving] so far in mathematics,' he said.

Trump Administration Weighs Restrictions on Chinese AI Models

The Trump administration is reportedly considering new measures that could limit U.S. access to China's most advanced AI models, a move that could reshape competition in the global AI industry.

Details:

  • Officials have reportedly discussed restricting or discouraging the use of leading Chinese AI models, citing growing national security and cybersecurity concerns.

  • Previous proposals included adding Chinese AI labs to the U.S. Entity List, issuing security advisories, and requiring companies to assume liability if they host Chinese AI models.

  • Rather than imposing an outright ban, the administration is said to be considering procurement rules, tighter security requirements, and public guidance that could reduce adoption of Chinese AI systems.

  • The renewed discussions come as Chinese models continue to improve rapidly, with recent releases demonstrating performance that rivals leading U.S. models while remaining more affordable.

Critics argue that restricting Chinese open-source AI could reduce competition and strengthen the position of dominant U.S. AI companies, while supporters believe the measures are necessary to protect national security.

Turn Any Photo into a Minecraft World with This Prompt

  1. Open ChatGPT and select "Create Image."

  2. Upload your photo and use this prompt:

Keep the human subject 100% photorealistic and unchanged. No pixelation, stylization, or skin lighting changes. Preserve facial details, pores, fabric texture, hair strands, natural shadows, expression, and posture.
Rebuild only the background as an accurate Minecraft voxel replica of the original location. Do not reinterpret it. Match the reference image's layout, spacing, depth, geometry, and object placement.
Replicate paths with the same curve and width using gravel or dirt blocks. Match tree positions, height ratios, and canopy spread with log and leaf blocks. Recreate buildings with the same silhouette, windows, and roof angles using Minecraft geometry.
Convert rocks, benches, fences, and signs into block equivalents while preserving their position and scale relative to the subject.
Match the original perspective exactly, including horizon, camera height, focal distance, framing, and subject scale. Convert anything touching the subject into Minecraft form.
