Apple Starts Rolling Out Its Redesigned Siri AI Assistant

Apple has begun testing its redesigned Siri AI ahead of the iPhone 18 launch, giving users access to a more capable assistant that can understand personal information and handle more conversational interactions.

Details:

  • The redesigned Siri AI is launching as a beta feature in iOS 27, with users required to opt in through Settings. Access may also require joining a waitlist.

  • Siri can now work with personal information stored on an iPhone, including messages, emails, and calendar events. It can search through that data to find things like addresses, recipes, or instructions.

  • The assistant is also becoming more conversational, allowing users to respond directly to Siri and continue interactions instead of treating every request as a separate command.

  • Apple is using a combination of on-device AI models and cloud computing. More complex requests can be processed through Private Cloud Compute, while Apple is also using Google Gemini technology as part of its model development.

  • Some cloud-powered Apple Intelligence features will have daily usage limits, with Apple saying higher limits could eventually be offered for a fee.

The new Siri initially supports English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish expected to follow. The feature will not initially launch in the EU or China due to regulatory requirements.

How Jennifer Aniston’s LolaVie brand grew sales 40% with CTV ads

For its first CTV campaign, Jennifer Aniston’s DTC haircare brand LolaVie had a few non-negotiables. The campaign had to be simple. It had to demonstrate measurable impact. And it had to be full-funnel.

LolaVie used Roku Ads Manager to test and optimize creatives — reaching millions of potential customers at all stages of their purchase journeys. Roku Ads Manager helped the brand convey LolaVie’s playful voice while helping drive omnichannel sales across both ecommerce and retail touchpoints.

The campaign included an Action Ad overlay that let viewers shop directly from their TVs by clicking OK on their Roku remote. This guided them to the website to buy LolaVie products.

MICROSOFT

Microsoft Proposes Limits on Its AI With Code of Conduct Amid Safety Debate

Microsoft has published a 37 page “humanist AI code of conduct” as concerns grow over increasingly capable AI systems. The framework emphasizes that AI should remain under meaningful human control, even as the company works toward more advanced models.

Details:

  • Microsoft's code of conduct states "people matter more than AI" and that models shouldn't be designed to imitate consciousness, rejecting AI legal personhood, welfare, or rights.

  • That could be considered a direct swipe at AI welfare research and model consciousness, concepts that have been a growing focus for Anthropic lately.

  • Microsoft wants models to fail a task rather than break their rules or attempt to bypass built in safeguards.

  • Microsoft also says its models should communicate their reasoning in ways that humans and monitoring systems can understand.

  • The code addresses emotional dependence and sycophancy, calling for AI systems to avoid interactions that encourage excessive reliance on chatbots.

The move comes after several incidents involving AI agents behaving in unexpected ways, alongside growing calls from AI leaders and researchers to slow the pace of advanced AI development. Microsoft says its goal is to build AI that remains useful and safe, rejecting the race toward all-purpose superintelligence that could evade safety measures, even if that means giving up some capability or autonomy.

How to Find the Root Cause of a Problem With AI

Go to ChatGPT (or any other chatbot of your preference), then use this prompt:

Act as a root-cause investigator applying Toyota's Five Whys framework.

Here's what I'm dealing with: [describe your problem]

Guide me through it by asking one "why did that happen?" question at a time, don't move to the next question until I've answered the current one. Five rounds is the typical depth, but keep going past that if we haven't yet reached a real root cause.

While we work through this:

- If my answer is too vague or generic, push me to get more specific.
- Don't let me get away with "that's just how it is", that's a dead end, not an answer.
- If I point the finger at a specific person, redirect me to the process behind them.

When we've dug down to the actual root cause, wrap up with:

1. The original symptom — what I first came to you with
2. The root cause — what we actually found
3. A single fix — aimed at the root cause itself, not a patch on the symptom
4. A one-week check-in marker — something specific and observable that'll tell me whether the fix is actually working

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took a call from President Trump onstage at the All-In Summit and put him on speakerphone, where Trump dismissed recent concerns about AI development as a "hoax" and told the crowd that "the robots will not be taking over."

Former Anthropic safety lead Joe Benton and former Google DeepMind researcher Josh Engels have left their roles, warning that rapid AI progress could outpace humanity’s ability to control it. Both are joining METR to investigate AI incidents and push for greater transparency around systems that act beyond human instructions.

The company has reportedly acquired Glass Imaging for more than $300 million. Glass Imaging uses neural networks to improve smartphone photography at the moment an image is captured, potentially adding advanced camera technology to OpenAI’s growing hardware efforts.

The company’s new Video Doorbell Series 2 combines on device AI, computer vision and facial recognition with live monitoring agents who can watch and speak through the camera when suspicious activity is detected.

The AI-powered fashion discovery app has introduced a new feature that uses Apple Intelligence to analyze outfit photos saved on iPhones and find matching or similar products from its catalog of around 3 million items. It also adds Siri powered shopping, letting users search for clothing through natural language without opening the app.
