MOONSHOT
Moonshot Launches New Kimi Model K2

Moonshot AI has shaken up the AI world with the release of Kimi K2, an open-source language model with particularly strong performance in coding and autonomous agent tasks, outperforming big names in key areas.
Details:
The new model features 1 trillion total parameters with 32 billion activated parameters in a mixture-of-experts architecture.
Kimi K2 delivers strong benchmark results, scoring 65.8% on SWE-bench Verified, 97.4% on MATH-500, and 53.7% on LiveCodeBench — outperforming GPT-4.1, Claude 4 Opus, and other top models in coding tasks.
It’s also far cheaper to train, thanks to the MuonClip optimizer, which enabled stable training of a trillion-parameter model with “zero training instability.” This breakthrough could signifcantly reduce the computational cost of training large models.
The model is available for free at http://Kimi.ai or via API.r
It's great for the AI community to see better open models emerging, although the company sees its open-source approach more as a strategy to attract developers, hoping those who try out Kimi K2 may eventually become enterprise customers.

AI IN SOCIETY
Kids and AI Chatbots: A Growing Friendship with Hidden Risks

A new report from Internet Matters reveals that children, especially vulnerable ones, are increasingly turning to AI chatbots for emotional support and schoolwork.
Details:
64% of kids aged 9 to 17 use AI chatbots, with ChatGPT being the most popular. Usage has nearly doubled in the past 18 months.
Children with special needs or health challenges are nearly three times more likely to use companion AI chatbots for friendship and emotional support.
Many kids trust chatbots more than traditional search tools, with 58% believing bots provide better answers, a concerning trend given that chatbots often provide inconsistent or even harmful advice.
Internet Matters is calling for stronger safeguards and better education to help children use AI safely.
As AI chatbots become a key part of kids’ lives, parents and schools are struggling to keep up, with most conversations about AI remaining surface-level and age verification systems easy to bypass — leaving younger kids exposed to risks such as reduced critical thinking and emotional dependency.

Have Gemini analyze your own videos on your phone

A recent update lets you upload videos directly in the Gemini app on Android and iOS. Previously, Gemini could only analyze YouTube links or static images. Now you can get answers about your own clips, whether it's identifying objects, summarizing scenes, or asking about specific moments.
Open Gemini and start a chat (Make sure you have the latest version of the Google app).
Tap the + button
Tap Gallery or Files. If video upload is available, you’ll be able to select video files.
Select a video (max 5 minutes total) and upload it.
Type your prompt, for example:
“What’s happening at 20 seconds?”
“Can you summarize the video?”
“What objects are shown?”
Gemini will analyze the video and give you a detailed response using both visuals and audio.
Notes:
The feature works on Android and iOS only (not on the web).
Supports both free and paid accounts (Gemini 2.5 Flash and Pro).

The model was planned for release next week, but CEO Sam Altman shared on X that they “need time to run additional safety tests and review high-risk areas. We are not yet sure how long it will take us.”
Goldman CIO Marco Argenti says the company plans to “augment” its workforce with the AI tool, which will perform tasks on behalf of its more than 10,000 human software developers.
Elon Musk's aerospace company is investing $2 billion in his AI lab, xAI. The funding is part of a larger $5 billion round.
Musk also mentioned that "it would be great" if Tesla invested in xAI, though that decision would require approval from Tesla's board and shareholders.
