Rift Deepens Between OpenAI and Microsoft
It's no secret that a rift has been slowly forming within Microsoft and OpenAI's multi-billion-dollar partnership, but according to the WSJ, it may now be reaching an inflection point.
Details:
OpenAI executives are reportedly considering publicly accusing Microsoft of anticompetitive behavior throughout their partnership, a move that could involve seeking federal regulatory review of the contract’s terms for potential antitrust violations.
OpenAI wants to loosen Microsoft’s grip on its AI products and computing resources, and most importantly, it wants Microsoft to sign off on its plan to convert into a for-profit public benefit corporation.
Negotiations are currently deadlocked, as Microsoft is pushing for a larger stake in the new company than OpenAI is willing to offer, and is also seeking contractual guarantees to retain access to OpenAI’s technology even if it reaches AGI.
The recent increase in friction between the two companies stems from OpenAI’s reluctance to give Microsoft access to Windsurf’s intellectual property following its $3 billion acquisition of the coding startup.
The two companies, once close partners, are now rivals in several areas, such as AI tools for businesses and consumer chatbots. Despite the rising tension, both companies issued a joint statement to the WSJ, saying that “Talks are ongoing, and both sides say they remain optimistic about future collaboration.”

OpenAI Wins $200 Million US Defense Contract
OpenAI has landed a$200 million contract with the U.S. Defense Department to provide cutting-edge AI tools for national security.
Details:
The contract is part of a new initiative, OpenAI for Government, which aims to provide custom AI models for national security and administrative operations.
OpenAI’s tools will address challenges like cyber defense, healthcare for service members, and data analysis for defense programs.
OpenAI is also working with Anduril, a defense tech startup, to deploy advanced AI systems for "national security missions".
The startup clarifies that all use cases must comply with its policies and guidelines, which currently ban its services from being used to “develop or use weapons” or to “injure others or destroy property.”

How to turn text into audio overviews directly with Gemini
The feature is now available directly with Gemini. You’ll find it in Google’s AI assistant on Android or iOS.
Open the Gemini app and tap the Plus button in the Ask Gemini box.
Tap Files and select a document either from your device or Google Docs (DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, and TXT formats are supported).
Once the file has been uploaded, tap Generate Audio Overview. (It may take a few minutes, but you don’t have to stay in the chat — you’ll be notified when it’s ready.)
Once it’s done, tap Audio Overview to listen to it.
You can find the Audio Overview at any time by tapping the Chats and Gems icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
You can also share and download the audio. From the playback screen, tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner, then tap Download or Share.
