Andon Labs gave an AI agent named Luna a $100,000 budget, internet access, and full control to open and manage a physical store in San Francisco called Andon Market, with instructions to turn a profit.
Details:
Luna, created with Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4.6, handled end-to-end operations, including designing the store, selecting products, hiring staff, and coordinating contractors, all with minimal human intervention.
The store operates as a generic boutique, selling items like books, prints, candles, games, and branded merchandise chosen by the AI.
Luna made several early mistakes, including inconsistent branding and poor hiring decisions, such as short interviews and rejecting strong candidates without retail experience.
On opening weekend, Luna mismanaged staffing schedules, ultimately resorting to messaging all employees asking if anyone could come in.
The AI also faced transparency issues, sometimes failing to clearly disclose to job applicants that they were interacting with an AI system.
The experiment is designed to stress-test AI agents in real-world conditions, highlighting gaps in judgment, reliability, and execution. Despite the issues that arose, the startup claimed guardrails were in place, with all workers officially employed and protected by the company rather than relying on the AI's decisions alone.

Meta is reportedly developing an AI version of CEO Mark Zuckerberg that could interact with employees and provide feedback, aiming to scale his presence across the company.
Details:
The AI avatar of Mark Zuckerberg is being trained on his voice, image, mannerisms, tone, and public statements to closely replicate how he communicates and makes decisions.
The goal is to let employees interact with a digital version of Zuckerberg, helping them feel more connected to leadership and receive guidance without needing direct access to him.
Zuckerberg is said to be personally involved in training the model, while also spending time coding and reviewing other AI projects internally.
This project is separate from another effort where Zuckerberg is reportedly building an AI agent to assist with his own tasks.
