Gmail Gets a Gemini AI Overhaul

Google is rolling out a new set of Gemini-powered features to Gmail, bringing AI directly into the inbox to help users search, summarize, write, and prioritize emails more efficiently.
Details:
Gmail is adding AI Overviews to its search bar, allowing users to ask natural language questions about their emails, such as finding past conversations or specific senders. This feature requires a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription.
A free version of AI Overviews is also rolling out, which automatically summarizes long email threads so users can quickly catch up without reading every message.
Proofread is a subscription-only feature that works like an AI writing assistant, offering suggestions for grammar, clarity, tone, conciseness, and sentence structure directly inside Gmail.
AI Inbox is another paid feature designed to surface what Gemini thinks matters most, flagging to-dos and important messages based on frequent contacts, inferred relationships, and activity patterns.
Suggested Replies has been upgraded to better match a user’s tone and writing style, acting as a more advanced version of Gmail’s existing Smart Replies.
Gmail’s “Help Me Write” and “Suggested Replies” are rolling out to all users after previously being available only to paying subscribers.
The Gemini-powered Gmail features are rolling out first to English-speaking users in the US, with additional languages and regions planned in the coming months.

OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health to Connect Medical Records and Wellness Apps

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new feature designed to let users securely connect medical records and wellness apps to ChatGPT, with the goal of making health-related conversations more personalized and useful.
Details:
ChatGPT Health allows users to link medical records and health data to the chatbot, helping ground responses in a person’s own information rather than generic advice.
OpenAI says the feature is not meant for diagnosis or treatment and does not replace professional medical care, focusing instead on everyday health and wellness questions.
ChatGPT Health lives in a dedicated, separate space within the app, keeping files, conversations, and connected data isolated from other chats.
OpenAI says information shared in ChatGPT Health will not be used to train its foundation models and will not flow outside the health-specific workspace.
The company partnered with b.well to provide the infrastructure that enables secure connectivity to medical records and said the feature was developed in close collaboration with physicians.
Users can also connect popular wellness and health apps, including Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers, and Function, through ChatGPT settings.
ChatGPT Health follows OpenAI’s broader push into healthcare, including the launch of Health Bench and CEO Sam Altman’s comments highlighting healthcare as a key area of AI improvement. The feature will roll out first to a small group of early users, with wider availability planned in the coming weeks.

The startup is reportedly preparing to raise $10 billion at a $350 billion valuation, nearly doubling its value from just three months ago. The round is expected to be led by Coatue and Singapore’s GIC.
The company is preparing to introduce AI assistants across its vehicles, starting in the Ford and Lincoln mobile apps early this year and expanding to in-car experiences from 2027. The system is designed to personalize the driving experience by understanding the driver, their vehicle, and real-world context.
Alongside this, Ford is shifting to a software-defined vehicle architecture powered by an in-house “High Performance Compute Center,” enabling more advanced driver assistance. The company plans a more capable, lower-cost version of BlueCruise next year and aims to introduce Level 3 hands-free driving in 2028.
The British company has launched a new business unit called Physical AI as part of a broader restructuring aimed at entering the robotics market.
The company will now operate across three units: Cloud and AI, Edge (mobile devices and PCs), and Physical AI, which combines automotive and robotics. Drew Henry will head the new unit.
At CES, Lenovo introduced Qira, a new AI platform designed to work across products from Lenovo and its Motorola brand. The company says it is not another assistant, but a “new way intelligence shows up across your devices,” saying that it is context-aware and available across devices without requiring users to open, switch to, or actively invoke a separate application.
The startup rose up to 15% in its Hong Kong debut after a $558 million IPO, becoming the first of China’s “AI tigers” to go public. The listing values the Beijing-based LLM company at about HK$4.3 billion.
