SoftBank and OpenAI to Set Up AI Joint Venture in Japan

SoftBank and OpenAI announced a major partnership that includes $3 billion in annual spending on OpenAI technologies and the formation of a joint venture to develop and market a new product called Cristal Intelligence.

Details:

• SoftBank will pay $3 billion annually to use OpenAI's technology across SoftBank Group companies.

• Cristal Intelligence will leverage OpenAI’s latest reasoning models to create AI agents that perform tasks autonomously and securely integrate the systems and data of individual enterprises in a way that is customized specifically for each company.

• The joint venture, SB OpenAI Japan, will exclusively market Cristal Intelligence to major companies in Japan.

The partnership deepens the Japanese investment giant’s financial stake in OpenAI and comes just weeks after it committed $15 billion to Stargate, a joint venture with OpenAI and Oracle to build AI capacity in the U.S.

UK Launches Major AI Breast Cancer Screening Trial

The NHS is launching the world’s biggest trial of AI to detect breast cancer, aiming to reduce radiologists’ workload and provide quicker results for patients.

Details:

• Over the next few years, AI will analyze two-thirds of 700,000 mammograms done in England to assess if it is as accurate and reliable as a radiologist in reading scans.

• If successful, hospitals may no longer need two radiologists to study every mammogram for signs of breast cancer. Instead, one radiologist could review the scan with AI offering a second opinion.

• This has the potential to reduce radiologists’ workload by half, shorten patient waiting times, and allow specialists to focus on other essential tasks.

• A smaller study in Sweden (2023) involving 80,000 women found AI safe and effective for this task, with no increase in false positives.

This could revolutionize breast cancer screening and enhance patient care in the UK, where cancer claims a life every 4 minutes, while helping address the growing demands on the NHS.

1. Go to Happenstance AI’s website and create an account.

2. Link your platform to analyze your contacts. (LinkedIn, Twitter, Gmail)

3. If using LinkedIn, select ‘Download your LinkedIn data’ and follow the steps provided.
