OPENAI

OpenAI Buying Jony Ive’s AI Device Startup for $6.4 Billion

OpenAI has acquired Jony Ive’s AI hardware startup, io, in a $6.5 billion deal, marking a significant expansion into consumer hardware.

Details:

  • Ive, renowned for his design work at Apple, will oversee all of OpenAI’s hardware and software design through his independent firm, LoveFrom.

  • Approximately 55 engineers from io will join OpenAI, with the first co-developed products expected to launch in 2026.

  • The initial product is envisioned as a pocket-sized, screen-free device that is contextually aware and not worn on the body, distinguishing it from smart glasses.

  • OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described it as a "totally new kind of thing," and Ive referred to it as "the coolest piece of technology that the world will have ever seen."

  • The device aims to address the “unintended consequences of smartphones” by offering a more natural and seamless AI interaction.

This collaboration signifies a strategic move by OpenAI to integrate advanced AI capabilities into innovative hardware, potentially redefining personal technology experiences.

MISTRAL

Mistral AI Launches Devstral, a Coding-Focused Open-Source Model

Mistral announced a new open-source SWE agent model focused on coding, called Devstral, which is much smaller than many rival models—so much so that it can even run efficiently on laptops.

Details:

  • Unlike traditional LLMs that focus on short-form code completions or isolated function generation, this 24-billion-parameter model is optimized to act as a full software engineering agent, capable of understanding context across files, navigating large codebases, and solving complex real-world problems.

  • It was developed in partnership with AI company All Hands AI and is openly available under the Apache 2.0 license, allowing developers and organizations to deploy, modify, and commercialize it without restriction.

  • Mistral claims it outperforms other open models such as Google’s Gemma 3 27B and Chinese AI lab DeepSeek’s V3 on SWE-Bench Verified, a benchmark that measures coding skills.

Devstral is currently released as a research preview, with Mistral and All Hands AI already working on a larger follow-up model featuring expanded capabilities.

5 prompt types you need to try

You can try these in GPT-4o, Gemini, Claude, and more.

1. Summarize

If there’s one thing chatbots do well, it’s delivering summaries that make reading easier and save time.

Upload your document and try prompts like:

  • “Break this down into 5 key bullet points.”

  • “Give me a quick TL;DR of this PDF for a Gen Z audience.”

  • “Rewrite this article in under 65 words.”

You can also add a tone such as formal, casual, or sarcastic, or mention a specific style to get exactly what you want.

2. Reframe it for the right situation

Reframing prompts help you make your writing clearer, more friendly, or better suited to the situation or style you want to convey.

Upload your document and try prompts like:

  • “Rewrite this email so it sounds more confident, but without losing the friendly tone.”

  • “Make this Facebook post more engaging and less formal.”

  • “Shorten this paragraph into something tweetable.”

You can combine styles, like: “Rewrite this to be quick, witty, and group-chat friendly. The kind of thing you'd drop in a WhatsApp group.”

You’ll get different results depending on the chatbot. You can try switching between them if one isn’t quite hitting the mark.

3. Brainstorm

AI is great at generating lots of ideas quickly, which you can refine later.

Use prompts like:

  • “Suggest 10 blog post ideas for a cybersecurity website.”

  • “Share creative ideas to promote a book on procrastination.”

  • “What metaphors work well to describe imposter syndrome?”

  • “Come up with creative taglines for a green shoe company.”

You can follow up with “Pick the best four and explain your choices.”

4. Comparison prompts

These are perfect to help with decision-making, whether it’s choosing tools, travel plans, or more.

Ask for side-by-side breakdowns, pros and cons, or direct recommendations:

  • “Compare the iPhone 15 Pro and Galaxy S24 Ultra for battery life, camera and AI features.”

  • “Pros and cons of switching from Apple to Android.”

  • “Which is better for learning to code: Python or JavaScript?”

  • “Give me a chart comparing the cost of these three streaming services.”

You can follow up with “Which would you choose for [goal]?” Then ask for the reasoning.

5. Role-play

When you assign ChatGPT a role or perspective, the results get sharper, more focused, and more human.

Try prompts like:

  • “Act like a nutritionist. Create a 7-day meal plan for someone with no time to cook.”

  • “You’re a therapist. Give advice to someone dealing with imposter syndrome at work.”

  • “Pretend you’re an ultra-picky hiring manager. Review this rĂ©sumĂ© and list red flags.”

You can combine role, tone, and task. For example:
“You’re a chill Gen Z marketing intern. Give me feedback on this presentation.”
