Google Launches AI Deepfake Call Detection for Android

Google is rolling out a new security feature designed to help Android users detect and avoid phone scams powered by AI-generated voices and caller impersonation.

Details:

• The new fake call detection feature is rolling out globally through Phone by Google to Android 12+ devices this month, starting with Pixel phones.

• The system is designed to combat a growing wave of scams where fraudsters spoof trusted phone numbers (for example, a person may receive a call showing the caller ID "Mom") and use AI-generated voices to impersonate family members, employers, or other trusted contacts.

• Google says the feature works through a behind-the-scenes verification process that confirms whether a call is actually coming from a contact’s device.

• When a mismatch is detected, Android can display a warning advising the user that the call may be fraudulent.

The launch of fake call detection was announced alongside other Android updates, including a new Google Photos feature called Wardrobe, which organizes clothing items from your photo library and lets users virtually try on outfits; a Catch Me Up feature for Google Play Books that provides story recaps; and an upgraded Circle to Search that can identify and search entire outfits at once instead of item by item.

Meta Launches AI Business Agent for WhatsApp Worldwide

Meta is rolling out its AI-powered Business Agent globally on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, expanding its efforts to turn its messaging platforms into more powerful tools for customer support and business operations.

Details:

• The Meta Business Agent can answer customer questions, recommend products, schedule appointments, qualify sales leads, and hand conversations over to human staff when necessary.

• Future capabilities may include market research, product analysis, calendar management, and tools that help businesses monitor competitors and industry trends.

• For larger organizations, the company introduced the Meta Business Agent Platform, which gives businesses the infrastructure to build, customize, and deploy their Business Agent at scale, with integrations for systems like Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee.

Meta is offering free access to get started, with paid subscription plans “for businesses of every size” coming in the months ahead.

xAI updates Grok Imagine to version 1.5

xAI has released a preview of Grok Imagine Video 1.5, a model that can turn a single image into a short video at up to 720p resolution. Users can control camera movement, pacing, and atmosphere through text prompts while preserving the original image’s details and lighting. The model can also combine multiple clips into longer scenes with a consistent visual style.

Ideogram releases version 4.0

Ideogram has launched Ideogram 4.0, calling it the best open image generation model in the world.The company says the model delivers stronger image quality, improved layout control, advanced typography capabilities, and native 2K image generation. Ideogram also claims 4.0 ranks as the top open-weight text-to-image model on the DesignArena leaderboard, trailing only closed models from OpenAI and Google.

ChatGPT reaches 1 billion monthly app users

According to market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, ChatGPT surpassed 1 billion monthly active app users in May, making it the fastest app to reach that milestone. The achievement comes about three years after launch and outpaced the growth of apps such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

Microsoft CEO says new AI data centers use as little water annually as a restaurant

Satya Nadella says Microsoft’s newer data centers use a closed-loop cooling system that recirculates the same water, reducing the need for a continuous fresh water supply. According to the company, the approach can save around 125 million liters of water per year per facility and keeps annual water usage at levels comparable to a single restaurant.

Google to give publishers more control over AI search

The company will allow publishers to opt out of having their content appear in AI-generated search features following new regulatory requirements in the U.K. The option, available through Search Console, will remove content from tools such as AI Overviews and AI Mode while leaving traditional search rankings unaffected.
