PERPLEXITY
Reddit Sues Perplexity, Others Over Alleged Data Scraping

Reddit is suing companies SerApi, OxyLabs, AWMProxy, and Perplexity for allegedly scraping its data from Google Search results and using it without a license.
Details:
The lawsuit states that Reddit set a trap for Perplexity by creating a “test post” that “could only be crawled by Google’s search engine and was not otherwise accessible anywhere on the internet.”
Within a few hours, queries made to Perplexity’s answer engine reproduced the content of the post.
The other three defendants had allegedly been collecting Reddit data through Google Search results to resell it to AI companies such as OpenAI and Meta. Perplexity was reportedly buying that data from at least one of them as well.
Reddit is seeking a permanent injunction against the companies, financial damages, and a prohibition on the use or sale of any previously scraped Reddit data.
Reddit’s growing repository of data has become a valuable commodity for AI labs, having already inked deals with OpenAI and Alphabet Inc.’s Google to license its data for training purposes despite backlash from some of its user base. This is also not the first time Reddit has taken legal action to protect its data, as it sued Anthropic earlier this year over similar scraping allegations.

ANTHROPIC
Anthropic Upgrades Claude Memory for Paid Users

Anthropic is upgrading Claude with persistent memory for paid users so it can recall details from past chats without being prompted.
Details:
Memory shows the exact items Claude remembers rather than vague summaries, and users can toggle, edit, or delete specific memories using plain language controls.
You can create separate “memory spaces” to keep work and personal contexts apart, helping prevent bleed-through across projects and chats.
Anthropic has also added an easy way to import “your memory” from rival chatbots like ChatGPT or Gemini.
Max subscribers can enable Claude’s “memory” in their settings starting today, while Pro users will see the feature roll out "over the coming days."
The feature brings Claude closer to ChatGPT and Gemini, which added memory last year, although it’s not yet known whether Anthropic plans to make the feature available to free users in the future.
AI Tutorial
Learn from long videos 10x faster

This free, AI-powered tool automatically analyzes YouTube videos, identifies their best parts, and even lets you chat with an AI about the content.
Go to tldw.us and paste your YouTube video’s URL.
Choose between Smart and Fast analysis modes. Smart uses a more intelligent model with higher-quality results but takes longer, while Fast mode isn’t quite as smart but is quicker.
Wait for the AI to process the video.
The results break the video into different topics. Select any topic to view its key moments, see how long each clip runs, and click any key moment to watch that part of the video.
The transcript panel shows the spoken audio. You can highlight any text in the transcript or chat to save it as a note (you’ll need to create an account to save notes).
Use the chat area to ask the AI specific questions about the video: explain ideas, summarize scenes, or identify important quotes.
Click your profile icon at the top right to view past videos, saved notes, and previously analyzed key moments.
*Note: The tool is free to use, but after a few tries it will prompt you to set up an account. Once logged in, you can analyze up to five videos per day.

OpenAI is rolling out updates to Sora in the next few days, introducing new “basic” video editing tools, new “character cameos” that allow users to create AI videos with reusable characters, and improved social features.
OpenAI also confirmed that an Android version is “coming soon.”
The company’s first open prompt image-generation AI Lens is now free for all U.S. users. It lets people edit Snaps or generate images from custom prompts.
Previously limited to paid subscribers, the Lens now offers a small number of free generations, with plans to expand to other markets including Canada, the UK, and Australia.
These AI-powered smart glasses would provide hands-free scanning, easy-to-follow directions, and proof-of-delivery tasks.
Amazon plans to expand capabilities like “real-time defect detection,” which can notify them if a package is dropped at the wrong address, and automatic adjustment to hazards like low light conditions.
OpenAI’s head of security, Dane Stuckey, cautioned that the company’s new browser carries notable security risks, particularly from prompt injection attacks. While OpenAI has added safeguards like a “logged out mode” to block user data access and a “watch mode” for browsing sensitive sites, Stuckey said prompt injection remains an unresolved challenge.
The new open-source 3D reconstruction model expands on its earlier version by supporting video-to-3D and multi-view-to-3D generation.
That’s a wrap!
