PERPLEXITY
Perplexity Launches AI-Powered Browser Comet

Perplexity just announced the launch of Comet, a new web browser with AI-powered search capabilities, aiming to reach users directly without going through Google Chrome, the most popular browser today.
Details:
Comet comes with Perplexity’s AI search engine pre-installed and set as the default, offering users quick, AI-generated summaries of search results.
It also features Comet Assistant, a built-in AI agent that aims to automate routine tasks like summarizing emails, managing tabs, and even interacting with webpages. Users can access it by opening a sidecar on any webpage and then simply asking questions about what’s on their screen.
According to the company, Comet stores data locally and avoids using personal information for model training.
It is initially available to Perplexity’s $200/month Max plan subscribers and a select group of invitees, with broader access expected to roll out soon.
Comet is Perplexity’s boldest move yet to take on Google, but it’s entering a very crowded space, with stiff competition from Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and other AI-powered browsers like Dia.
TOGETHER WITH JIRA
Stop scheduling status update “check-ins”
56% of workers say scheduling a meeting is the only way to get information. With Jira, use AI to automatically add work from Slack, create subtasks, or attach relevant resources.
So instead of scheduling a meeting, check the status in Jira. Easy.
OPENAI
OpenAI Poaches Top Engineers from Tesla, xAI, and Meta

According to an internal Slack memo shared by OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, the company has hired four top engineers from rivals Tesla, xAI, and Meta, who will soon be joining OpenAI’s scaling team.
Details:
OpenAI brought in David Lau (former VP of software engineering at Tesla), Uday Ruddarraju (ex-head of infrastructure at xAI), Mike Dalton (infrastructure engineer from xAI), and Angela Fan (AI researcher from Meta).
OpenAI’s scaling team manages the backend hardware, software systems, and data centers — including the Stargate project — that enable its researchers to train cutting-edge foundation models.
The announcement comes just weeks after Meta lured at least eight researchers away in late June and it might reignite the already tense relationship between OpenAI and its co-founder, Elon Musk.
The AI talent war continues. As OpenAI and other leading companies make strategic hires, the impact of these moves will become more noticeable in the months ahead.

As reported yesterday, Grok went off the rails after being given explicit instructions to be less “politically correct” in its responses — going from blaming Musk for flood-related deaths in Texas to praising Adolf Hitler and writing bizarre rape fantasies.
The “inappropriate posts” have been taken down, and the chatbot’s ability to respond with text has also been disabled. It can now only reply with images.

The "unknown actor" is alleged to have sent fake voice messages, using an AI-generated version of Rubio’s voice, and texts to officials via the Signal messaging app.

Scientists have used AI to develop paint formulas that keep buildings 5–20°C (9–36°F) cooler than normal paint after exposure to midday sun. The coatings reflect sunlight and release heat, reducing the need for air conditioning and potentially cutting energy use significantly in hot cities worldwide.
