Perplexity to Give Media Giants a Share of AI Search Revenue

Perplexity is launching a program that allows publishers to collect a share of the revenue their articles generate for the AI platform, with CEO Aravind Srinivas saying that āAI is helping to create a better internet, but publishers still need to get paid.ā
Details:
Under the new program, publishers can earn money when their content receives web traffic through Perplexityās Comet internet browser, appears in search queries on Comet, or is used to complete tasks by Cometās AI assistant.
The AI startup expects to pay publishers from a $42.5 million revenue pool initially, and to increase that amount over time.
The funds will come from revenue earned through Comet Plus ($5/month), a new subscription tier for the Comet browser. Publishers will get 80% of the revenue, while Perplexity keeps the rest.
The AI startup has not revealed whether any publishers have joined the program, though it says discussions are underway with "previous media partners."
Perplexity is the first to propose a revenue-share model based on how often content appears or assists in user queries, while other AI companies like OpenAI and Google have opted for multimillion-dollar deals with major publishers, though the goal is the same: to fend off legal action from industry giants who are increasingly frustrated that their articles are being used without permission and that valuable web traffic is being cut from their sites.

XAI
Elon Musk Sues OpenAI and Apple

The billionaire had threatened Apple with legal action earlier this month, accusing it of rigging App Store rankings in favor of OpenAI. Yesterday, he followed through and filed a lawsuit, alleging that the two companies are colluding to stifle competition.
Details:
Elon Musk's companies, xAI and X Corp., have filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, claiming that their deal to build ChatGPT into the iPhone is stifling competition in the AI industry.
Musk argues that iPhone users would āhave no reasonā to download third-party AI apps because the company āforce[s]ā users to use ChatGPT as their default chatbot when enabling Apple Intelligence.
The suit also accuses Appleās App Store of ādeprioritizingā rival chatbots and āsuper appsā such as Grok and X, alleging that despite receiving high rankings, neither appears in the storeās āMust-Have Appsā section ā where ChatGPT consistently features.
It also claims that the iPhoneās ChatGPT integration gives OpenAI access to āpotentially billions of user prompts originating from hundreds of millions of iPhones,ā allegedly giving it an unfair advantage.
This is the latest move in the growing tension between Elon Musk and Sam Altman. An OpenAI spokesperson described it as part of Muskās āongoing pattern of harassment,ā while Apple maintains that its App Store is designed to be fair and unbiased.

Turn your notes, PDFs, and images into video presentations

Go to the NotebookLM website and log in
Create a new notebook and upload your sources (these can be PDFs, audio files, copied text, Google Docs, Google Slides, web URLs, or YouTube URLs).
On the right side, click on the āVideo Overviewā option and wait for it to be generated.

Optionally, you can click the three dots to customize your video overview. There, you can pick a different language (English by default) and also provide specific instructions, such as focusing on a particular source, targeting an audience, or describing the show structure.
The AI will create new visuals to help illustrate points while also pulling in images, diagrams, quotes, and numbers from your documents. This is great for explaining data, demonstrating processes, and making abstract concepts more tangible.
Once the video is generated, you can review and download it as an MP4.
The feature was previously only available in English, but with the latest update it now supports over 80 languages, including French, German, Spanish, and Japanese.
