OpenAI Set to Launch AI Browser in Coming Weeks

OpenAI is reportedly gearing up to launch its own AI-powered web browser, according to Reuters.

Details:

  • OpenAI’s browser will feature a native ChatGPT interface, allowing users to interact with the chatbot directly through the browser instead of navigating to OpenAI’s website.

  • Sources say OpenAI may build its Operator AI agent into the browser, enabling it to book reservations, fill out forms, and handle other tasks on a user’s behalf.

  • The company plans to power the new browser with Google’s open-source engine, Chromium, which is also used by major browsers like Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.

Last year, The Information reported that OpenAI were considering the possibility of launching a browser and had hired two people who were ā€œinstrumentalā€ in developing Google Chrome. Now, the company appears ready to join the growing AI browser market, which recently saw the debut of Perplexity’s Comet and Opera’s Neon.

AI IN EDUCATION

AI Companies Bankroll New AI Training for Teachers

Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic are teaming up with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) to launch a $23 million training hub in downtown Manhattan.

Details:

  • Microsoft is contributing $12.5 million over the next five years, OpenAI will contribute $8 million in funding and $2 million in technical resources, and Anthropic will add $500,000 for the first year of the effort.

  • The ā€œNational Academy for AI Instructionā€ will provide free training to nearly 2 million AFT members, equipping educators with the skills to use AI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot in the classroom for tasks such as creating lesson plans and quizzes.

  • The hub aims to foster dialogue between tech developers and educators to ensure AI is used wisely, safely, and ethically in schools.

This is part of a broader push by tech companies to bring AI into education. The percentage of teens using ChatGPT for schoolwork has doubled over the last two years, making it necessary to prepare teachers for the growing role of this technology in schools.

Google has launched a new Gemini AI feature powered by its Veo 3 video model, allowing users to turn photos into short video clips. It can generate eight-second videos from reference images, complete with AI-generated audio—including background noise, ambient sounds, and speech.

The update is available to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers ā€œin select regions.ā€

Grok seems to consult social media posts from Musk’s X account when answering questions about topics like the Israel–Palestine conflict, abortion, and immigration laws, according to several users who shared screenshots of the chatbot’s chain of thought.

The update integrates AI Mode directly into the feature, allowing users to search their screen and ask follow-up questions without switching apps. It also adds in-game assistance, letting mobile players find strategy tips, and character info without leaving the game.

The company announced several new integrations for its tailored educational chatbot, launched in April. These integrations with publisher Wiley, Canvas, and AI video hub Panopto aim to bring "rich educational context to student conversations."

The open-source robot is fully programmable in Python, allowing tinkerers to build and test AI applications. It comes in two versions: the Reachy Mini Wireless, priced at $449, and the Reachy Mini Lite, which requires a connection to an external computing source but is more affordable at $299.
