OPENAI

OpenAI Announces ChatGPT Agent

The company bills ChatGPT Agent as a tool that can complete work on your behalf using its own “virtual computer.”

Details:

  • The new Agent mode is powered by a new, unnamed model that OpenAI developed specifically for this product.

  • It combines OpenAI’s earlier “Operator” and “Deep Research” tools, with the ability to switch between a visual browser, text browser, terminal, and APIs — and adapt its tools based on the task.

  • It scores high on benchmarks, achieving 41.6% on Humanity's Last Exam, more than double the performance of previous models.

  • It can complete tasks such as generating editable presentations and slideshows, booking restaurant reservations, and running code. Users can also schedule tasks to recur automatically.

  • Plus, with connectors, it can tap into Gmail, Google Drive, and more.

This launch pushes OpenAI ahead in the AI agent race against Google, Meta, and others. To use it, just select “Agent mode” and describe what you want done. It’s available now for Pro, Plus, and Team users, with Enterprise access coming later this summer.

NETFLIX

Netflix Uses Generative AI in a Show for the First Time

Netflix has officially started using generative AI in its shows and films. The streaming giant revealed that AI helped create a key scene in the Argentine series El Eternauta (The Eternaut), cutting production time and costs significantly.

Details:

  • Netflix used AI to create a building collapse scene in El Eternauta, completing it 10 times faster than traditional methods.

  • AI is being used for pre-visualization, shot planning, and advanced visual effects, “to help creators make films and series better, not just cheaper.”

  • Netflix is also applying AI to personalization, search, and ads, with plans to launch interactive ads later this year.

This marks a major step in how AI is being integrated into mainstream entertainment. CEO Ted Sarandos sees the technology as a powerful tool, claiming that AI gives more opportunities and options to more creators: “It used to be that only big-budget projects would have access to advanced visual effects like de-aging.”

AI music generator Suno’s latest update introduces three new features, which it calls “first-of-their-kind professional audio production tools”: “Add Vocals,” “Add Instrumentals,” and “Inspire,” which promises to create songs based on user-curated playlists.

The new model can now mimic not only your voice, but also your speaking style and language.

OpenAI’s CEO weighed in on the debate about AI’s impact on work, saying he mostly agrees with Jensen Huang’s position. He believes AI will transform jobs, not eliminate the need for human work. People will still crave meaning, creativity, and connection — and will continue evolving alongside new tools.

A California federal judge ruled that three authors suing the AI startup Anthropic for copyright infringement can represent writers nationwide whose books were allegedly pirated to train its AI system.

According to Reuters, consumers will soon be able to complete purchases directly on ChatGPT. OpenAI is partnering with Shopify and other brands to build the system and set commission rates, which merchants would pay when fulfilling orders through ChatGPT.
