AI REGULATION
New York Passes Bill to Curb AI-Driven Disasters

New York lawmakers have passed the RAISE Act, a bill aimed at preventing catastrophic AI-related incidents, such as those resulting in over 100 deaths or injuries or more than $1 billion in damages.
Details:
The bill requires AI labs to publish safety reports, disclose incidents, and meet transparency standards for AI models trained with over $100 million in computing resources.
Companies failing to meet these standards could face civil penalties of up to $30 million.
The bill now awaits Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision to sign it into law, amend it, or veto it.
It was designed to avoid stifling innovation among startups and academic researchers, addressing criticisms of similar legislation in California. Despite that, tech giants and venture capitalists have criticized the bill, claiming it could hinder progress or lead companies to withhold their most advanced models from New York.

META
Meta Files Lawsuit Against Maker of "Nudify" App Technology

Meta has filed a lawsuit against Crush AI, the maker of an AI-powered “nudify” app that creates fake, explicit images of real people without their consent.
Details:
Meta sued Joy Timeline HK, the company behind Crush AI, for bypassing ad review processes and running over 8,000 ads for its AI nudify services on Facebook and Instagram in early 2025, violating the company’s policies.
Crush AI used multiple advertiser accounts, frequently changed domain names, and even created a Facebook page to promote its services.
Meta has developed new technology to detect and remove similar AI nudify or undressing services, even if they don’t include explicit content.
It's not the only one that’s faced this problem. Platforms like X, Reddit, and YouTube have also struggled to moderate AI nudify apps, with millions of users exposed to related ads in 2024.
The lawsuit highlights the growing challenge of moderating harmful AI tools on social media, and while the company claims it is ramping up efforts to combat similar apps, there is a need for stronger industry collaboration and legislative action to ensure user safety.
