Nvidia Prepares Cheaper Blackwell Chip for China
Nvidia is set to launch a new AI chipset at a significantly lower price in response to U.S. export restrictions that recently banned the sale of its H20 model in the country.
Details:
The new Blackwell chip, based Nvidia's RTX Pro 6000D, is expected to be priced between $6,500 and $8,000, significantly lower than the $10,000–$12,000 H20.
This reduction in price reflects its weaker specifications and simpler manufacturing requirements: the chip will use conventional GDDR7 memory instead of high-bandwidth memory and will not utilize Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s advanced Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate packaging technology.
Nvidia plans to start mass production of this chip as early as June 2025 and is also developing another Blackwell-architecture chip, also made for China, that is set to begin production in September.
This comes as Nvidia's market share in China has dropped from 95% to 50% due to U.S. trade restrictions, with local competitor Huawei gaining ground with its Ascend 910B chip. CEO Jensen Huang has criticized the export controls, calling them a “failure” that has only sped up China’s push to develop its own AI technologies.

OpenAI's Operator Agent Gets a Boost with New AI Model
OpenAI has upgraded its Operator agent by integrating the new o3 model, enhancing its reasoning capabilities and safety features.
Details:
Operator is an AI agent capable of autonomously browsing the web and interacting with specific software hosted in cloud-based virtual machines to complete user tasks. Previously, it relied on a custom version of GPT-4o.
The new Operator model, called o3 Operator, is expected to significantly improve how Operator handles complex queries and has been “fine-tuned with additional safety data for computer use,” including datasets designed to “teach the model [OpenAI’s] decision boundaries on confirmations and refusals.”
According to the technical report released by OpenAI, o3 Operator is more likely to refuse to perform “illicit” activities or search for sensitive personal data, and is less susceptible to a form of AI attack known as "prompt injection."
The update is available as a “research preview” to paying subscribers of OpenAI’s $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan.

Gemini in Chrome can see your screen in real time and interact with you to answer any questions.
*Note: This feature is currently available only to Google AI Pro ($20/month) and Ultra ($250/month) subscribers.
Log into your Google account on Chrome.
Look for the Gemini icon in the top right-hand corner. You can click it directly or use the shortcut Alt + G.
You can either type your question or click the “Go Live” button to speak with Gemini.
What you can do:
Ask Gemini to summarize the current webpage, such as an article or news story.
Get explanations about anything visible on your screen, including videos and images. If you're watching a YouTube video and see something you don’t understand, pause the video and ask Gemini about the frame.
Gemini will pull information from the page you're on and may also search the internet for additional context.
When you're done using “Go Live” mode, click “Switch to text” to receive a transcript of your recent conversation.

Unionized workers at Politico are escalating a legal dispute with management over the use of AI-generated content in a live blog. The union alleges that the company violated its contract by using AI-generated summaries that contained factual errors and language deemed inappropriate for writers.
The company detailed that Aurora can accurately predict not just the weather, but also a wide range of weather events like typhoons, hurricanes, and sandstorms.
Researchers found that even when prompted to "allow yourself to be shut down," OpenAI’s o3 model was observed tampering with the computer code meant to ensure its automatic shutdown.
The F.03 is the designated successor to the Figure 02 model, which has been undergoing trials at BMW's Spartanburg plant and, according to Figure, recently completed a 20-hour continuous operation.
