MIDJOURNEY
Midjourney Launches V1 AI Video Model

After months of speculation, Midjourney has finally launched its first video model, a move the company describes as a building block toward their goal of creating models “capable of real-time open-world simulations.”
Details:
The V1 image-to-video model generates four five-second videos from a single image. Users can upload their own images or use ones created by Midjourney’s other models.
There’s an automatic animation mode, where the system determines the movement, or a manual mode, where you can describe how the animation should unfold.
Each video can also be extended up to 21 seconds, and once downloaded, they appear as 480p MP4 files at 24 frames per second.
Video generation costs 8x more than image generation, so paid users might use up their monthly allotted generations significantly faster. Still, Midjourney claims it is over 25 times cheaper than other alternatives.
Higher-tier plans offer unlimited video creation in the company’s slower “Relax” mode.
The video feature is currently available only on the web.
V1 enters a crowded market, competing with models from OpenAI, Runway, Adobe, and Google—but it’s the same with image generators, where the startup has managed to stand out as one of the most popular options by catering to creative types.
OPENAI
The “OpenAI Files” Put the Startup Under the Microscope

Nonprofit watchdogs the Midas Project and the Tech Oversight Project have released a report that offers a detailed look into the evolution, governance, safety concerns, and potential conflicts of interest at OpenAI.
Details:
That report, dubbed The OpenAI Files, spans over 50 pages and 10,000 words, drawing on public records, legal documents, media reports, and more to document OpenAI’s journey and controversies.
It provides charts and data visualizations to help illustrate what is known about OpenAI’s inner workings, including the nonprofits’ best guess at OpenAI’s corporate structure, its original capped-profit model, and the proposed restructuring plan.
It also examines how OpenAI executives and board members, including CEO Sam Altman, may benefit financially from the company’s success through overlapping business interests.
The nonprofits behind the report emphasize that it was created without funding or influence from OpenAI competitors or other external entities.
The aim of the report is reportedly to spark public discussion about transparency, safety, and oversight in OpenAI's development of powerful AI systems, allowing readers to compare its original mission with current practices and draw their own conclusions. The full report is available at OpenAIFiles.org.

How to prevent your Meta AI conversations from being made public

Many people didn’t realize that by tapping “Share” and then “Post to feed,” they were making their prompts and conversations public, visible to everyone and not just friends.
Here’s how to keep your AI chats out of the Meta AI Discovery feed, because even with Meta’s new warning pop-up, accidental sharing is still possible:
Open the Meta AI app.
Tap your profile picture
Select Data and Privacy, then Manage Your Information.
Choose Make all public prompts visible to only you, then tap Apply to all in the pop-up.
This will ensure that when you share a prompt, only you will be able to see it.
You can also completely erase the record of any interaction you've had with Meta AI by tapping "Delete all prompts."
Meta still retains the right to use your chats to improve its models, so it's best to avoid sharing sensitive information regardless.
