Microsoft Expands Copilot Mode in Edge with New AI Features

When Microsoft first officially launched Copilot Mode back in July, it rolled out with basic features. But now, the company is expanding it with a new batch of AI features aimed at turning your browser into a “dynamic, intelligent companion that anticipates, assists, and accelerates your experience online.”
Details:
Copilot Actions can handle multi-step tasks like unsubscribing from email newsletters or making restaurant reservations using chat or voice so users spend less time on manual steps.
Journeys saves your research as a project you can revisit later and Copilot can summarize what you’ve read, suggest next steps, and resurface helpful videos or pages.
Copilot can also use your browsing history to answer questions about items you recently viewed or tailor recommendations such as movies or clothes you might like.
When Copilot Mode is active, you’ll see clear visual cues so you know when it’s taking an action, listening, or viewing. You can also turn it on or off at any time.
Microsoft is also adding security-focused AI features like Scareware Blocker, which uses local AI to help protect you from full-screen scam takeovers.
Edge users on Windows and Mac (with mobile support coming soon) can try Copilot Mode in Edge today at aka.ms/copilot-mode. “Actions” and “Journey” are available for free in a limited preview in the U.S. only.

OPENAI
OpenAI Acquires Software Applications Incorporated

OpenAI has acquired Software Applications Incorporated, the 12-person startup that built Sky, a Mac-native AI interface that understands on-screen context and can take actions within apps.
Details:
The startup, founded in 2023, unveiled Sky in May and previously raised a $6.5 million seed round that included Sam Altman as an investor.
Sky lets Mac users use natural language to get help with writing, coding, planning, and daily tasks, while acting inside apps and reading on-screen context to execute steps.
OpenAI says Sky’s deep integration with macOS will help accelerate its vision of “bringing AI directly into the tools people use every day.”
All 12 team members are joining OpenAI, and while the terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, it’s stated that Turley and Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, led the acquisition.
This is the latest in OpenAI’s buying streak, following the Statsig deal for about $1.1 billion in September and the purchase of Jony Ive’s io for over $6 billion in May.
