OpenAI and Microsoft Reach Tentative Deal to Revise Partnership
OpenAI just announced it reached a nonbinding agreement with Microsoft on a revised partnership that would allow the startup to convert its for-profit arm into a public benefit corporation (PBC).
Details:
Under the agreement, OpenAI’s nonprofit would continue to exist, retain control over the startup’s operations, and obtain a stake in the company’s PBC valued at more than $100 billion.
Further terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the two companies said they will keep working toward a definitive agreement with a focus on safe AI.
Microsoft, the company’s largest investor with about $13 billion invested since 2019 and sharing revenue from ChatGPT and the API, was considered essential for the restructuring, with key terms expected to be rewritten, including financial arrangements, technology sharing, and revenue allocation.
OpenAI and Microsoft will "continue to work with the California and Delaware attorneys general" on the transition plan, indicating that the deal is still awaiting regulatory approval before it can take effect.

Ant Group’s R1 Humanoid Robot Debuts as a Rival to Tesla’s Optimus
Ant Group is showcasing its first humanoid robot, R1, at major tech events in Berlin and Shanghai, with demos highlighting kitchen help for now and hinting at broader roles across sectors.
Details:
Unlike firms focused on hardware, Ant is developing robot brains, seeing humanoids as a gateway to popularizing AI assistants. CEO Zhu Xing says large AI models, still in their early stages, will soon reshape how humans interact with machines.
Public demos include cooking shrimp at IFA 2025 in Berlin and appearances at the Inclusion Conference in Shanghai.
Ant says R1 could serve as a helper in healthcare, a companion, or a tour guide, with trials currently underway in community centers and restaurants.
The company joins players like Tesla, Figure, and Unitree Robotics in betting that recent AI gains can finally push humanoid robots toward practical use, although no launch date or price has been set yet.
China already has a higher density of robots per human on its factory floors than the US and Japan, and is now preparing humanoids to move into increasingly complex roles.

The chatbot can now “remember” past conversations without prompting, helping it tailor responses to projects, preferences, and priorities, while also adding incognito chats for all users.
Named Diella, the virtual cabinet member will manage government contracts to curb corruption and ensure transparency in public procurement.
The new assistant, powered by Meituan’s LongCat model, lets users order by voice, book restaurants, and get tailored meal recommendations.
The companies are teaming up with London-based data center business Nscale Global Holdings on the project, with the CEOs planning to head to the country next week at the same time as U.S. President Donald Trump.
The company has updated Copilot’s Audio Expressions feature with a new scripted mode powered by its MAI-Voice-1 model. The feature can read text in multiple styles, including a vampire-themed voice released ahead of Halloween.
