HUGGING FACE

Hugging Face Introduces Two Open-Source Humanoid Robots

The company announced two open-source, fully programmable robots: HopeJR and Reachy Mini.

Details:

  • HopeJR is a full-size humanoid robot with 66 actuated degrees of freedom, capable of walking and manipulating objects. It is priced at approximately $3,000, making it a much more affordable option than similar models from rival manufacturers, such as Unitree's $16,000 G1.

  • Reachy Mini is a desktop unit that can move its head, talk, listen, and it's meant to be used to test AI applications. It will run between $250 and $300.

  • The company puts emphasis on the robots being open source “so anyone can assemble, rebuild, and understand how they work. They’re also affordable, ensuring that robotics doesn’t get dominated by just a few big players with dangerous black-box systems.”

  • There’s no exact shipping timeline yet, but Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue expects the first units to ship by the end of the year.

These developments are part of Hugging Face's broader initiative to democratize AI robotics, following its acquisition of Pollen Robotics and the launch of the LeRobot platform, which offers open AI models, datasets, and tools for building robotic systems.

META

Meta Plans to Fully Automate Ad Creation Using AI

The social-media company plans to enable brands to fully create and target ads using AI by the end of next year.

Details:

  • This initiative will enable brands to generate complete ad campaigns—including images, videos, and text—by simply supplying a product image and budget.

  • Meta's AI will then decide which Instagram and Facebook users to target and also offer budget recommendations.

  • These tools will personalize ad content in real time based on user data such as geolocation, creating unique versions for each viewer

  • Zuckerberg said during the company’s annual shareholder meeting last week that the ultimate goal is to build an AI one-stop shop where businesses can set objectives, allocate budgets, and let the platform handle the rest.

Advertising makes up the bulk of Meta’s business, bringing in more than 97% of overall revenue in 2024. With over 3.43 billion active users and growing, Meta’s new AI-driven advertising system could be a game changer for marketers if done right.

💼 The biggest barrier to AI adoption in the business world isn’t tech – it’s user confidence

The latest in AI and Tech

Gmail has introduced automatic AI-generated summaries for lengthy email threads. These summaries now appear above the email content in English-language threads on mobile devices for Google Workspace users. They are updated in real time as new messages are received and can be disabled by turning off “Smart features” in the app’s settings.

Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment are reportedly in licensing negotiations with AI music startups Suno and Udio. These talks aim to resolve ongoing copyright infringement lawsuits filed by the labels in 2024.

The proposed agreements would involve the AI companies paying licensing fees and providing a small equity stake to the labels.

Meta plans to automate up to 90% of its internal risk and data protection checks using AI, according to internal documents reviewed by NPR. Human oversight will still be employed for complex cases, and only "low risks" will be automated.

A new trend on TikTok sees users pretending their real videos are AI-generated. Creators, including indie band Kongos and rapper GameBoi Pat, have labeled their existing videos as outputs from Google's Veo 3 AI model. Others mimic AI behavior by acting like prompts or joking about AI influencing their actions.

Meta and Anduril, the defense-tech startup founded by Palmer Luckey, announced Thursday a partnership to develop virtual and augmented reality devices for the U.S. Army, including a high-tech helmet called EagleEye.

The helmet combines augmented reality and AI to enhance battlefield awareness, communication, and decision-making.
