META

Meta Is Building a Cloud Business to Sell Excess AI Capacity

Meta is reportedly developing a cloud infrastructure business that would rent out its AI computing capacity and models, aiming to generate new revenue from the billions it has invested in AI data centers.

Details:

  • Meta is exploring a new initiative that would sell excess AI compute capacity, putting it in competition with cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

  • The company is also considering selling access to various AI models, including its recently launched closed-weight models, hosted on its AI infrastructure.

  • The project, internally known as Meta Compute, is said to be led by senior executives overseeing Meta's infrastructure and AI efforts.

  • Meta has committed more than $180 billion to AI infrastructure, including massive data center projects in Louisiana and Ohio, as it continues expanding its computing capacity.

The move follows similar efforts by firms like SpaceX, which recently struck deals to rent out access to its Memphis data centers to Anthropic and Google, as companies increasingly look for ways to monetize large AI infrastructure investments.

The largest IPO in history is coming. Where will all that liquid money go?

SpaceX just filed for an IPO valued at up to $1.75 trillion. When that much capital becomes liquid all at once, where it goes next is the big question.

Meanwhile, spring art auctions in NY cleared $2.5 billion, with 15+ new artist records.

Prized, physical assets with fixed and scarce supply. When the ultra-wealthy get liquid, it’s one of the markets they reach for to diversify.

Masterworks lets you into that art market without needing the nine figures. Its members invest in shares of blue-chip artwork by artists like Banksy, Basquiat and Warhol.

The track record to-date?

  • $1.3B deployed across 500+ artworks

  • 29 sales to date

  • Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, not including those unsold*

OPENAI

OpenAI 'In Early Talks to Give 5% Stake to US Government

According to the Financial Times, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has proposed giving 5% of the company's equity to a U.S. sovereign wealth fund.

Details:

  • Altman proposed the idea as a way to "secure good relations with the administration and … address political blowback."

  • Under the proposal, other US AI companies would donate similar stakes, though it is unclear whether they would agree to such a deal.

  • Discussions are reportedly still in the early stages, and any formal action would likely require congressional approval, which would significantly complicate the matter.

The report comes as the Trump administration has taken a more active role in AI policy, including measures affecting AI companies, semiconductor firms, and exports of advanced AI technologies.
