Black Forest Labs Enters Video, Audio, and Physical AI with FLUX 3

Black Forest Labs has introduced FLUX 3, its first multimodal AI model capable of generating images, videos with synchronized audio, and supporting robotics applications through a single unified architecture.

Details:

• FLUX 3 can generate images and up to 20-second videos with native audio from a single prompt, while also supporting image-to-video, video-to-video, keyframe animation, multilingual dialogue, and consistent character generation across scenes.

• Black Forest Labs plans to release the model through four product lines: FLUX 3 Video, FLUX 3 Image, FLUX 3 Action, and the upcoming open-weight FLUX 3 Dev, although only a limited Early Access program is available at launch.

• The company also introduced FLUX-mimic, a robotics model built on FLUX 3 that can help robots learn new manipulation tasks with significantly less training data than traditional approaches.

According to Black Forest Labs' preliminary testing, FLUX 3 outperformed several leading video generation models in human preference comparisons, though the company has not yet released full benchmark methodology, or pricing details.

NVIDIA

Nvidia Invests Billions in Ilya Sutskever's AI Company, Safe Superintelligence Inc.

Nvidia has agreed a multibillion-dollar investment in Safe Superintelligence, the secretive AI start-up led by OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever.

Details:

• The deal includes an undisclosed investment and access to NVIDIA's Vera Rubin GPU platform.

• SSI says this will allow the company to "10x our compute in the next 12 months," adding, "We've reached the point where our research is worth scaling, and with this partnership we will be able to."

• The chipmaker, already an investor in SSI, said the expanded partnership follows significant research progress made by the startup during its two years operating in stealth.

• SSI is focused exclusively on developing safe and aligned artificial superintelligence, following what Sutskever has described as a "straight shot" research approach without releasing commercial AI products.

• Nvidia said the two companies will also collaborate on the development of future AI computing platforms, with SSI contributing research insights to help shape next-generation hardware.

The announcement marks SSI's biggest public update since its launch, bringing the company back into the spotlight as competition among frontier AI labs continues to intensify.

AI Tutorial

Teach Claude a skill

1. Open Cowork in Claude for Mac.

2. Start a recording one of two ways:

   1. Click the "+" button in the composer, then select "Record a skill."

   2. Go to Customize > Skills, click "Add," then select "Record your screen."

3. Click "Start recording." To narrate as you work, leave the microphone on. Use the microphone control to mute it or choose a different input.

4. Do the task the way you normally would. The capture bar shows that recording is in progress and counts the steps it has captured.

5. Click "Done" when you're finished.

6. Claude then starts a Cowork task, reviews the recording, and proposes one of the following:

• A new skill, marked NEW on the proposal card. Click "Save" to keep it, or "Dismiss" to discard the proposal.

• An update to an existing skill. If the recording overlaps with a skill you already have, Claude proposes changes to that skill instead. Click "Update" to apply the changes.

7. Skills you save from a recording appear in Customize > Skills and work like any other skill. You can edit them, share them, and delete them on the same terms.

Notes:

• The new "Record a skill" feature is available on Pro, Max, and Team plans, in Cowork in Claude for Mac. It isn't available in chat, on Windows, or on Free and Enterprise plans.

• Don't type passwords or display sensitive information or private conversations while recording.

The company reported $119.8 billion in second-quarter revenue but recorded its first-ever quarter of negative free cash flow as AI infrastructure spending accelerated. Despite the increased spending, Google remains highly profitable and says it will continue investing heavily to support its long-term AI strategy.

A report from Common Sense Media claims that Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode can generate unsafe responses for children, including content related to mental health crises and eating disorders.

Midjourney acquires astrology app Co-Star

As part of the deal, Co-Star founder Banu Guler will become Midjourney's Chief Design Officer while continuing to lead Co-Star. The company says Guler and her team will help develop Midjourney's first standalone apps, including a dedicated AI image generation app.
