OpenAI Launches Prism, an AI Workspace Built for Scientists

OpenAI has introduced Prism, a new scientific workspace for writing and collaboration, powered by GPT-5.2, the startup’s “most advanced model for mathematical and scientific reasoning.”
Details:
Prism functions as an AI-powered research editor that helps assess scientific claims, improve writing, and surface relevant prior research within a single workspace.
It is available for free to anyone with a ChatGPT account.
The tool is designed to support human scientists rather than operate independently, with the goal of accelerating their work.
Prism integrates deeply with scientific standards, offering advanced LaTeX support and visual tools that turn rough sketches into usable diagrams, addressing common pain points in academic writing.
The launch follows a surge in scientific usage of ChatGPT, according to the company, which reports millions of weekly queries on advanced hard-science topics.

Yahoo Adds Generative AI to Search With Scout

Yahoo has introduced Scout, a new AI-powered answer engine now available in beta, as part of a broader push to integrate generative AI across its products.
Details:
Scout delivers direct answers to natural-language queries by combining information from the open web with Yahoo’s own data, content, and decades of search history.
Results are presented with structured lists, tables, rich media, and clear source links designed to improve trust and make information easier to understand and act on.
Yahoo is also launching the Yahoo Scout Intelligence Platform, which powers AI features across Mail, News, Finance, Sports, and Shopping.
These include email summaries, news takeaways, sports breakdowns, shopping research with product comparisons, and real-time financial analysis.
The company partnered with Anthropic to use Claude as Scout’s primary AI model and is also leveraging Microsoft Bing’s grounding API to ensure answers are supported by authoritative web sources.
Scout is available today in beta for U.S. users at Scout.Yahoo.com and in the Yahoo Search app on iOS and Android.

Dear Upstairs Neighbors is an animated short created by director and Pixar alum Connie He in collaboration with Google DeepMind researchers. With the film, the company aims to showcase how generative AI can support, rather than replace, human artistry.
The company plans to trial new paid subscriptions across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp that unlock expanded AI features and additional tools, while keeping core services free.
Features under consideration include paid tiers for AI video creation like Meta AI’s Vibes, integration of the Manus AI agents Meta acquired in December, and advanced Instagram tools such as unlimited audience lists and stealth Story viewing.
The social media company said it will cut less than 15% of its workforce and reduce office space as it reallocates resources toward AI-focused teams and products, with layoffs expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter.
The update would enable Siri to complete tasks by accessing users’ personal data and on-screen content, marking the first major step toward delivering the AI features Apple previewed in June 2024, ahead of a more conversational overhaul planned for WWDC 2026 in June.
The new version of its reasoning-based video model, designed for professional creative workflows, delivers native 1080p output, generation speeds up to 4× faster, and per-second pricing that is 3× cheaper.
