Anthropic Says Claude AI Helped Discover a Novel Enzyme System
Anthropic confirmed a week ago that it runs a wet biology lab in the Bay Area, where its AI models help carry out physical experiments. Now the company says the lab has already made what it believes is a big discovery: a new enzyme "system" called ART, with "properties reminiscent of CRISPR."
Details:
CRISPR is a natural immune system used by bacteria to fight off viruses that has become a gene-editing technology used by researchers around the world.
The company says the system was identified in DNA belonging to bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria, and that it behaves similarly to CRISPR in that it appears capable of performing functions involving DNA, including cutting, copying, and pasting genetic material.
Anthropic says Claude carried out much of the discovery work by searching through biological data with around 950 AI agents, using roughly 210 million tokens over about 21 hours.
The company notes that the facility works only with lower-level BSL-1 and BSL-2 research and does not handle pathogens that infect humans, adding that "all of the lab work is performed by human scientists."
The findings still need to be independently validated by the broader scientific community.
Anthropic says the work demonstrates how AI could accelerate biological research, while acknowledging that the same capabilities raise safety concerns around the use of AI in biology.

ChatGPT in Siri "Dramatically Underperformed," Says OpenAI
OpenAI says its ChatGPT integration with Apple Intelligence attracted far less interest than expected, according to court documents that detail how the partnership between the two companies later deteriorated.

When the 2024 agreement was reached, OpenAI expected Apple’s promotion and distribution to increase ChatGPT usage and subscriptions among iPhone users.
About a month after the integration launched, OpenAI said it appeared to be off to a slow start and reduced its forecasts for additional weekly active users. By summer 2025, the company said the integration was “dramatically underperforming.”
OpenAI pointed to Apple’s decision to keep the ChatGPT feature turned off by default as one possible reason for the limited uptake. Users had to activate it through a multi-step process.
The filing also shows that OpenAI was concerned Apple could move quickly to work with another AI provider. Apple later partnered with Google to use Gemini models for its redesigned Siri.
The court filing is part of litigation involving Elon Musk’s companies and the Apple OpenAI agreement. OpenAI is arguing that the partnership did not give it an unfair market advantage and that its market share declined as Google, Anthropic, Meta and Grok gained users.

Download PocketPal AI from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. The app is free, has no ads, and has a simple interface.
Open the app and tap the Download Model button.
Browse the list of available models, select one, and tap Download.
When the download finishes, tap Load to start using the model.
You can also tap + to add a model from Hugging Face, your device, or a remote source.
Note: Models can require different amounts of storage and memory. If your phone has limited resources, start with a smaller model.

The latest in AI and Tech
Google's newest audio models let you create custom voices across 100+ languages or pick from more than 2,000 prebuilt ones. Flash TTS is designed for high quality voice creation, while Flash-Lite is built for affordable scale, large volumes of dubbing, and bulk audio creation.
Voice mode can now run on all three GPT-6 models: Astra, Sol, and Luna. Plugins also work with Voice for the first time, covering integrations like email, calendar, and Slack. Finally, Voice now works with ChatGPT Work, OpenAI's cloud-connected agentic system, on both web and mobile.
The company announced new tools for YouTube Studio, the app creators use to manage their channels. These include AI-powered comment moderation, automated deepfake detection, and a draft-feedback feature.
China's internet regulator is investigating both companies after Anthropic alleged they routed sensitive user data to Claude models without customers' knowledge.
Google is rolling out support for 13 additional apps in Gemini, including Adobe, Squarespace, Airtable, Linear, Peloton and SeatGeek. The integrations let users perform tasks such as managing projects, creating visual assets, building websites and planning workouts directly within Gemini.
