OpenAI Is Shutting Down Sora

OpenAI is shutting down both its Sora video generation app and the web-based platform that professionals used to generate videos, stepping back from further development of AI video tools.

Details:

• The company said the move is part of a broader shift in priorities, with more focus on robotics and building artificial general intelligence.

• Reports say employees had complained Sora was a drag on the company's computing resources, and the freed-up capacity will now go towards finishing development of its next major AI model, codenamed Spud.

• Disney is also exiting the deal it signed with OpenAI last year, in which it pledged to invest $1 billion in the company and agreed to license some of its characters for use in Sora.

Sora's cancellation comes as OpenAI faces intensifying pressure to ramp up its ⁠enterprise and coding ​products, as competition from rival AI startups and tech giants heats up and expectations from investors continue to grow.

Apple Testing Standalone Siri App Ahead of Major AI Upgrade

Apple is preparing a major overhaul of Siri, including testing a standalone app and expanding its role into a systemwide AI assistant across iPhone and Mac.

Details:

• A redesigned Siri is expected to launch with iOS 27 and macOS 27, with an official preview likely at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2026.

• The new version is designed to act as a systemwide AI agent, with deeper integration across apps and the ability to complete tasks using personal data from emails, messages, and notes.

• Siri will improve its ability to summarize news, provide more detailed web based answers, and compete more directly with AI search tools from other tech companies.

• Apple is testing a dedicated Siri app that introduces a chat style interface, allowing users to view past conversations, start new ones, switch between voice and text, and upload files or images for analysis.

• The company is also working to replace Spotlight search with Siri, giving it access to more types of data, while built-in apps will gain an "Ask Siri" toggle "to request more information about highlighted text or pull up related emails."

Siri will still be accessible through voice commands and the iPhone’s power button, maintaining familiar ways to activate the assistant while expanding its capabilities.

AI Tutorial

Record and summarize any meeting on a Mac using ChatGPT

1. Launch the ChatGPT app on a Mac.

2. Click the Record button at the bottom of the screen and grant the necessary permissions when asked.

3. ChatGPT will record the audio of each speaker. When you're done, click Stop on the recording button. (Recording length is currently capped at 120 minutes per session.)

4. To finish the recording and upload the transcript and summary, select Send.

5. ChatGPT will then open a private canvas with a structured summary, key points, action items, and suggested questions.

6. From there, you can type or speak a question to dive into specific elements of the conversation, or ask ChatGPT to rewrite it as an email, project plan, or code scaffold.

Note: Record mode is available for Plus, Enterprise, Edu, Business, and Pro workspaces, and only available for the macOS desktop app.
