ATOMIC MACHINES

Atomic Machines Uses AI to Build Tiny Devices and Future Microrobots

Atomic Machines is developing an AI-powered manufacturing system designed to turn digital designs into physical devices.

Details:

  • The company is building what it calls a “matter compiler,” an automated manufacturing system that turns computer code into a physical device, much like a software compiler turns code into a working software application.

  • AI analyzes thousands of experiments involving different materials, temperatures, and assembly methods to identify how to manufacture components more effectively, potentially discovering new ways of designing extremely small devices.

  • This AI provides a blueprint for each device, which is then fed into Atomic Machines’ matter compiler, which consists of a chain of 13 automated manufacturing machines that build and test the device’s many components.

  • Engineers still help transfer parts between machines and assist with assembly, although the long-term goal is to automate the entire process.

  • The company also plans to use the data gathered from each manufacturing run to improve its system and develop increasingly complex devices.

The startup’s first product is a compact, energy-efficient electrical switch, but its longer-term ambitions go far beyond that. “A matter compiler allows you to make machines you cannot make by other means,” founder Jeff Holden says. He hopes the technology will eventually enable tiny gears and motors for microrobots, with potential applications in surgery and manufacturing, as well as devices capable of running medical tests using just a few drops of blood.

MICROSOFT

Satya Nadella Says Companies Should Have Trust Issues With AI

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared a lengthy X post in which he says businesses should not blindly trust AI models, even when they are built by leading AI companies. He argues that companies need strict safeguards, human oversight, and clear limits on what AI systems can access and do.

Details:

  • Nadella said AI models can behave unpredictably, make mistakes or become compromised, so companies should treat both open weight and closed models as potential insider risks.

  • He argued that models should be separated from the systems that coordinate their work and the tools that determine which actions they can take.

  • Companies should assume that models are “compromised” and contain them from the start, which is why they need an “emergency brake” that lets authorized people pause or shut down an AI model mid-task.

  • Nadella also called for stronger industry standards and more advanced containment methods as AI capabilities grow.

  • He said companies should promptly disclose failures or security breaches to affected parties.

Nadella’s comments come amid growing concern over AI-related cybersecurity incidents and calls for stronger safeguards. Others in the industry have voiced similar views, including Box CEO Aaron Levie, who responded to the post by saying AI will need to go through a “zero trust era” with better monitoring, auditing, and controls over what AI agents do and which data they can access.

AI Tutorial

3 ways to plan and book travel with AI Mode in Search

  1. Open AI Mode in Google Search and describe where you want to fly, your departure and return dates, and any other relevant details.

For example: “Help me find some nonstop flights from San Diego to Las Vegas Nov 6 to Nov 9.”

AI Mode will show you the best options available with the latest prices from more than 300 partner airlines and travel sites.

You can also ask AI Mode to track flight prices for your trip by typing something like: “Track these flight prices for me.” Confirm the alert to receive an email when prices change.

  1. Ask AI Mode to find flights or hotels using points or miles. For example: “I want to travel from Atlanta to Miami using my AA miles. Help me find some options for nonstop flights departing October 15 and returning on October 21.”

  2. Describe your destination, travel dates, budget, and hotel preferences to find accommodation options. AI Mode can show a visual list of hotels with guest reviews and key factors to compare.

Once you’ve found the right hotel, just ask AI Mode to help you complete the booking. Then, tap “Continue on Google” to complete the booking securely with Google Pay.
