London Neurosurgeons Perform First Successful AI-Assisted Operation to Remove Brain Tumour

Rhys Hibbert (right), from Bedfordshire, became the first person to undergo pituitary tumour surgery using AI technology. Neurosurgeon Hani Marcus (left) conducted the procedure.
A patient has successfully undergone what surgeons describe as the world’s first brain surgery with live AI assistance. The system analyzed video from the operation in real time, helping surgeons identify hidden blood vessels and nerves while removing a tumor near the patient’s optic nerves.
Details:
The patient, 48-year-old Rhys Hibbert, had an 11mm non-cancerous tumor on his pituitary gland that was pressing against his optic nerves and narrowing his peripheral vision.
The AI acted as a second pair of eyes, analyzing the live surgical video, tracking instruments, and marking areas where blood vessels and nerves were most likely located, while highlighting areas where it is safest to remove the tumour.
Surgeons trained the system using hundreds of previous pituitary tumor operations, with researchers marking the locations of important blood vessels and nerves so the AI could learn to recognize them.
The team makes clear that the AI tool is only meant to assist, and surgeons remain fully in control.
After the operation, Hibbert reported that his vision and energy had improved significantly. Researchers now want to conduct a larger trial, with the long-term goal of creating a kind of “ChatGPT for surgeons” that could provide an additional expert perspective during complex operations.

HUGGING FACE
Hugging Face Launches Microduck, a $399 Robot You Can Teach New Tricks to

Hugging Face has introduced Microduck, a small duck-shaped robot that AI developers can teach new tricks using reinforcement learning.
Details:
Microduck costs $399 and uses an articulated beak as a gripper, allowing it to pick up small objects. It also includes a camera, microphone, speaker, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a small lidar sensor.
The robot comes with built-in behaviors, including following a laser pointer, while demonstrations show it picking up objects, rollerblading, recovering from falls, and handling attempts to knock it over.
Its main audience is AI developers, who can teach Microduck new behaviors through reinforcement learning, aka trial and error.
At roughly 10 inches tall and under 2 pounds, Microduck is too small for serious household chores. Instead, Hugging Face is positioning it as an accessible platform for experimenting with physical AI.
The company plans to begin shipping the first robots before Christmas, with preorders now open.

You Can Now Personalize and Save Temporary Chats

Start a Temporary Chat in ChatGPT (top-right corner).
Select "Personalized" before starting the conversation. (This setting cannot be changed after the conversation begins.)
A "personalized" Temporary Chat can use your existing memories, custom instructions, and plugins to tailor its responses. It does not create new memories and will not appear in your chat history unless you save it.
To save a Temporary Chat (personalized or not), click the bookmark icon in the top-right corner once the conversation is over.

This turns the conversation into a regular chat, and it will appear in your chat history.

Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Anthropic's co-founders made the list, alongside leading Chinese technology executives. Unexpected additions include Paris Hilton, Ben Affleck, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, while notable absences include Demis Hassabis, Jensen Huang, Sundar Pichai, and Mark Zuckerberg.
The company announced the Model Hardware Standard, or MHS, a new interface that will make it simpler for AI agents to operate and communicate with physical machinery. Anthropic says the system could cut hardware integration from weeks or months to hours, with plans to eventually make the standard open source and agent agnostic.
The chipmaker has held acquisition talks with the AI platform that could value Hugging Face at more than $13 billion, although no deal has been reached yet.
AI Mode can now track flight prices across more than 180 countries and notify users when fares change, while US users can also discover and book hotels through it.
Anthropic added a built-in browser to Claude's Cowork desktop app, ending the need for the Chrome extension for many web tasks.
