OPENAI

Sam Altman Walks Back His AI Jobs Apocalypse Prediction

After years of warning that AI could "replace most of the jobs people do today" and leave entire job categories "totally, totally gone," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman now says he may have been wrong and that "the kind of jobs apocalypse that some of the companies in our space advocate or talk about" probably won't happen.

Details:

  • Altman said he expected AI to eliminate far more entry-level white-collar jobs by now, but admitted the impact has been slower than he originally predicted.

  • He explained that human interaction still plays a major role in work, saying people value working with and around other people in ways AI cannot fully replace.

  • His comments come as businesses continue questioning whether AI adoption is delivering enough value to justify its massive costs.

  • Several economic studies also suggest that AI adoption is happening much more slowly than the pace of technological advancement, with little evidence so far of large-scale unemployment caused directly by AI.

  • Still, the OpenAI Foundation said Wednesday it will commit an initial $250 million toward grants, research partnerships, and direct programs aimed at helping workers and economies navigate the disruption caused by AI.

Altman’s updated stance also aligns with views from leaders like Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, who recently argued that fears of an AI-driven mass unemployment crisis are “overblown,” saying AI is more likely to reshape and enhance jobs than completely eliminate them.

ELEVENLABS

ElevenLabs Launches Music v2 With Genre Switching and Song Editing

ElevenLabs has released Music v2, a new AI music-generation model that can switch genres mid-song while handling more advanced vocals, composition, and editing capabilities.

Details:

  • The new model can transition between completely different styles within the same track, such as moving from opera to heavy metal and back again without losing coherence.

  • Music v2 also improves fast-paced vocals like rap, supports more detailed arrangements, and can add non-musical sound effects directly into songs.

  • Artists can now edit specific sections of a track using prompts, regenerating only selected parts without changing the rest of the song.

  • Instead of generating short clips, users can build songs section by section (including intros, verses, and choruses) and combine them into full tracks.

  • The company says the model performs more reliably across different languages, lyrics, vocal styles, and compositions.

ElevenLabs emphasized that Music v2 was trained on licensed data and is cleared for commercial use, an important point as rivals like Suno and Udio continue facing copyright-related legal challenges.
