Apple Debuts Revamped 'Siri AI' as Tim Cook Bids Farewell
Apple has introduced a major upgrade to Siri, transforming its digital assistant with powerful new AI capabilities powered by the latest version of Apple Intelligence, developed in collaboration with Google. The company is now calling the enhanced assistant "Siri AI."
Details:
Siri AI is designed to be more conversational, context-aware, and capable of assisting users across Apple’s ecosystem of apps and devices.
The upgraded assistant can draw on past interactions, visual information, and broader knowledge to provide more personalized and useful responses.
Apple is also launching a dedicated AI assistant app, bringing its approach closer to offerings from competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
The company emphasized its privacy-first approach, arguing that AI should be built around user needs rather than adding AI features for their own sake.
A beta version of Siri AI is scheduled to arrive later this year for supported devices running in English, though it will not initially launch in the European Union due to regulatory challenges.
The event also marked a major leadership transition, with Tim Cook making his final WWDC appearance as CEO before handing the role to John Ternus in September.
Apple also announced macOS Golden Gate 27, the next major OS version for the Mac; updates to iOS 27, including new child safety protections; new features for Safari; and a formal developer preview of homeOS, a new operating system purpose-built for Apple's upcoming smart home hardware lineup.

OpenAI Files IPO Paperwork, a Week After Anthropic
OpenAI has confidentially filed draft IPO paperwork, giving the company the option to go public, although it claims its focus remains on building new AI products rather than preparing for a listing.
Details:
OpenAI has not decided on timing, noting that some of its current goals may be easier to achieve while remaining a private company.
Executives described the filing as a move that provides strategic flexibility rather than a signal that a public offering is imminent.
OpenAI is also working on a tender offer that will allow employees to sell shares at the latest valuation and alleviate some near-term pressure for liquidity.
This comes one week after OpenAI's biggest competitor, Anthropic, filed IPO paperwork, and just days before SpaceX is expected to go public.
As more companies head to the public markets, competition for capital will only get tougher, with AI development also growing more expensive.

Protect Sensitive Data With ChatGPT's New Lockdown Mode
Sign in to your ChatGPT account.
Click your profile name in the lower-left corner.
Select Settings.
Open the Security section.
Scroll down to Advanced Security.
Turn on the Lockdown Mode toggle.
Review the pop-up explaining the restrictions and limitations.
Click Turn on to confirm.
Lockdown Mode limits outbound network requests to help prevent sensitive information from being exposed through malicious prompt injection attacks. It restricts ChatGPT's ability to access external services, websites, and files while you're working with confidential information.
What you can't do with Lockdown Mode enabled
Live web browsing: ChatGPT can no longer access the live internet and instead relies on cached information, which may be outdated or incomplete.
View images from the web: Images can't be retrieved from online sources, though you can still upload your own images and generate AI images.
Use Deep Research: The Deep Research feature becomes unavailable.
Use Agent Mode: Agent Mode is disabled.
Canvas networking: Users cannot approve Canvas-generated code to access the network.
Download files for analysis: ChatGPT can't download files, though it can still analyze files you upload directly.
Even with these limitations, Lockdown Mode is still worth trying if you're working with highly sensitive or confidential data, whether personally or professionally.

The company is reportedly preparing to roll out a revamped version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks, designed to be a "super app" that brings together AI agents, coding tools, and other services within a single platform.
Javier Milei has proposed a new legal framework that would allow the creation of “non-human corporations” operated by AI systems or robots, with human ownership becoming optional. The proposal is part of a broader plan that also calls for minimal AI regulation and a business-friendly tax environment aimed at attracting AI companies.
The new research features that can help users build a knowledge base directly from chat conversations. Instead of requiring users to upload sources first, the tool can now suggest relevant materials using Google Search and its research capabilities. The update also adds more export options, editable outputs, and greater transparency by showing how answers were generated.
The United Kingdom has announced a ÂŁ1.1 billion ($1.47 billion) plan to expand its AI computing capabilities, including a national AI supercomputer, investments in domestic chip development, and funding for AI hardware startups.
While details remain limited, the lab is expected to focus on areas such as user interaction and product design, reflecting Chesky’s long-standing interests at Airbnb. Chesky is expected to remain Airbnb’s CEO while the new venture is led by a separate team.
