OPENAI

FBI Arrests OpenAI Engineer Over Alleged Secret Recording Device

A former OpenAI engineer has been arrested by the FBI and charged with allegedly attempting to secretly record conversations inside the company's offices.

Details:

  • Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35 year old engineer who joined OpenAI in July 2025, allegedly placed a concealed audio recording device behind a television in a conference room used for discussions involving confidential technical, commercial, and strategic information.

  • Alfozan asked a productivity AI assistant about meeting schedules and where external partners typically met with OpenAI. He allegedly also used another chatbot to research how to build, install, and remotely access a recording device.

  • OpenAI employees reportedly found the first recorder wrapped in toilet paper on September 30. Days later, security personnel discovered another similar device in an unattended bag allegedly linked to Alfozan, alongside his wallet and identification.

  • The company said it used its own AI models to investigate the device's origin. It also stated that it had found no indication that the individual improperly accessed or extracted model weights, source code, or customer data.

  • The FBI arrested Alfozan on October 9, and OpenAI terminated his employment. He has been charged with using or attempting to use a device "to intercept oral communications".

The FBI investigation is ongoing, and Alfozan faces a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

META

Facebook Gives Users More Control Over Their Feed Algorithm

Meta has introduced “Your Algorithm” on Facebook, an AI-powered feature that lets users personalize the content they see in Feed and Reels by describing their interests and preferences in their own words.

Details:

  • Your Algorithm allows users to tell Facebook which topics they want to see more or less of using natural language, giving them more direct influence over the platform’s recommendations.

  • The feature updates recommendations in real time as users adjust their preferences, helping tailor their feeds to their interests.

  • Users can also manage recommendations directly from individual posts through the three-dot menu, where they can access Your Algorithm or select “Interested” and “Not interested” to provide feedback.

  • Facebook may ask follow-up questions to better understand what users liked or disliked, allowing them to provide more detailed feedback.

The introduction of “Your Algorithm” reflects Meta’s broader push to hand users more control over their social media experience as AI takes on a growing role in content discovery. It marks a move away from the traditional recommendation systems that have shaped social media for years, and takes an approach closer to streaming services, which let users personalize recommendations based on their interests and preferences.

Vibe code your own Android app with Google AI Studio

The new feature allows users to launch their own personal apps on their device through Google Play using a standard Google account.

  1. Open Google AI Studio and access the app creation tool.

  2. Describe the Android app you want to build, including what it should do, the features you need, and how it should work. You can add screenshots and docs as needed.

  3. Review the suggested features while the app is being created. Add any you missed or adjust your original idea.

  4. Once your personal app is created, install it on your device with a single click.

  5. You can find the apps you create in your personal library. They won’t show up in Google Play’s search or listing pages, and they won’t be shared with anyone.

Notes:

  • The feature is rolling out to select markets, including the U.S., for users 18 and over.

  • There’s no charge to experiment and build an app.

  • In the months ahead, Google says you’ll be able to share your vibe-coded creations with trusted friends or family without going public on the Play Store.

  • You’ll also be able to move a personal app to the Play Store for everyone to try, after completing trust and safety reviews.
