Anthropic Beefs Up Claude’s Free Tier
Anthropic is bringing some of its most popular Claude paid features to free users, including the capability to create files and use Connectors and Skills.
Details:
Free Claude users can now create and edit files such as spreadsheets, presentations, documents, and PDFs.
Connectors allow users to link Claude with third-party services like Canva, Slack, Notion, Zapier, and PayPal, enabling the chatbot to pull in and act on external information.
Skills let users load instructions, scripts, and resources so Claude can repeat specific workflows more reliably, essentially teaching the assistant how to handle recurring tasks.
Free users will now also be able to engage in longer conversations with Claude thanks to the addition of "Compaction," which allows Claude to automatically summarize earlier context so there isn't a need to start a conversation from the beginning.
These free-tier upgrades appear to be Anthropic's attempt to capitalize on the backlash from OpenAI's recent introduction of ads, aiming to lure away frustrated ChatGPT free users.

OpenAI Disbands Its Mission Alignment Team
OpenAI has dissolved the team that was tasked with communicating the company's mission to the public and to its own employees.
Details:
OpenAI confirmed that its mission alignment team has been broken up, with staff redistributed across the company. The group had focused on helping employees and the public understand OpenAI’s goal of ensuring advanced AI benefits humanity.
The team was formed in late 2024 and acted as a support function tied to messaging, internal understanding, and broader discussion of AI’s societal impact.
Josh Achiam, who led the group, has transitioned into a new role as OpenAI’s chief futurist. He said his work will focus on studying how AI and future systems could reshape society and supporting the company’s long term mission.
OpenAI said the reassigned team members are continuing related work in other parts of the organization, though it did not specify their exact placements or whether the futurist role will include a dedicated team.
A company spokesperson described the move as part of routine restructuring typical for a fast growing organization rather than a shift away from mission related work.

How to Connect NotebookLM to Gemini
Go to the Gemini website or open the Gemini mobile app on your device and click the + icon in the message box.
Select NotebookLM.
Choose the notebooks you want to include and add them to the conversation.
Now you can ask questions that pull context from all selected notebooks at the same time.
This workflow lets you keep notebooks organized and focused while Gemini handles the cross-referencing. Older notes become easier to reuse, scattered information connects naturally, and you can export the conversation to a document whenever needed.
Note: The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.

Threads has launched an AI-powered feature called “Dear Algo” that lets users temporarily shape what appears in their feed.
By posting a public message starting with “Dear Algo” and describing what they want to see more or less of, users can influence their recommendations for three days. Requests are visible to others, who can repost them to apply the same preferences to their own feeds.
Uber Eats has introduced a beta AI feature called Cart Assistant that helps customers build grocery orders faster.
After selecting a store, users can enter or upload a shopping list (including photos of handwritten notes or recipe screenshots) and the assistant automatically adds matching items to the cart.
The company is again delaying parts of its planned AI overhaul for Siri, which was originally expected to arrive with iOS 26.4 in March. According to Bloomberg, some features will now roll out gradually, with portions slipping to a May update or even iOS 27 later in the year after testing issues surfaced.
The startup is donating $20 million to Public First Action, a bipartisan advocacy group promoting AI transparency and safety measures. The organization is linked to Democratic and Republican super PACs that support candidates favoring stronger AI safeguards.
