HOLLYWOOD
Ben Stiller, Paul McCartney Join 400 Hollywood Stars in Fight Against AIās Use of Copyrighted Content.

Over 400 influential Hollywood figures, including Ben Stiller and Paul McCartney, have signed an open letter urging the Trump administration to uphold copyright protections against AI companies.
Details:
The letter pushes back against proposals from OpenAI and Google, which call for an exemption allowing AI companies to train models on copyrighted material to stay competitive with China.
The letter, addressed to the Trump White Houseās Office of Science and Technology Policy, criticizes AI companies and argues that weakening copyright protections threatens Americaās creative industries, which are vital to the economy and culture.
It was backed by some of the biggest names in entertainment, from actors like Cate Blanchett and Taika Waititi to musicians like Paul Simon and Paul McCartney.
Meanwhile, OpenAI and Google argue that fair use laws already permit AI to train on copyrighted content and that loosening restrictions would support innovation and economic growth in the tech sector. The debate continues, highlighting the challenge of fostering technological progress while protecting artists' rights.

Open-Sora 2.0 Rivals Top AI Video Models at 90% Lower Training Costs

HPC-AI Tech has developed an open-source AI video model that delivers nearly commercial-grade quality while reducing training costs by about 90% through new compression methods.
Details:
Open-Sora 2.0 generates videos from text descriptions or single images, with a maximum resolution of 768x768 pixels and a five-second limit. It also includes a motion score tool for controlling movement intensity.
The model had training costs of approximately $200,000āroughly one-tenth of other models like Movie Gen. This significant cost reduction was achieved through a three-stage training process, the use of pre-trained image models, and the introduction of a new video autoencoder.
In benchmarks, the model performs at near-commercial levels across key metrics such as visual quality and prompt accuracy, with its VBench score just 0.69% behind OpenAI's Sora.
The model still faces challenges with occasional artifacts and physics-defying movements, but its open-source nature could help lower prices in the AI video generation market through improved training methods. You can watch more examples on the official project page.

Microsoft and Swiss startup Inait announced a partnership to develop AI models based on 20 years of brain research and simulations of mammalian brains. The new technology is expected to learn from real-world experience, be more energy-efficient, and adapt better to complex environments.
TStarting this week, Meta AI will roll out across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger in 41 European countries and 21 overseas territories, but for now, it will be limited to text-based chat features.
Nvidia and xAI are joining forces with BlackRock, Microsoft, and Abu Dhabi to create a massive AI infrastructure fund. The initiative aims to raise up to $100 billion to build new data centers and energy projects.
The new reasoning models (LRMs), named EXAONE Deep, are available in three sizes (2.4B, 7.8B, and 32B parameters) and have been optimized for math, science, and programming.
