Google's AI Just Became Your Personal Shopper

Google is rolling out a major set of AI-powered shopping tools that let users ask for products conversationally, and even have an AI agent call local stores to check availability or automatically place orders when conditions are met. This could transform how everyday shopping works, especially for impulse buys or last-minute gifts.

Details:

  • The new AI shopping features let users describe what they want in natural language (e.g., "a waterproof travel backpack under $80") and receive curated product suggestions, comparisons, pricing, and reviews, without having to enter exact keywords.

  • With the "Let Google Call" option, the AI can call nearby shops to check stock, pricing, or ongoing promotions on your behalf. You receive the results via text or email.

  • For supported merchants, you can set rules, like desired size, color, or price cap, and Google will watch for when the item meets those conditions. When it does, after your confirmation, the AI can auto-checkout using Google Pay.

  • The tool pulls data from a massive shopping catalog, reportedly over 50 billion product listings, giving it broad enough coverage to support many categories (electronics, toys, beauty, home goods, etc.).

For eCommerce businesses and retailers, this signals a shift: shoppers may increasingly rely on AI-agents rather than manual browsing or traditional search, which could change how products are discovered and sold.

OPENAI

OpenAI & Perplexity Roll Out AI Shopping Assistants

Just ahead of the holiday season, OpenAI and Perplexity have launched AI-powered shopping assistants integrated into their chat platforms, tools meant to simplify product search and buying. But several niche AI shopping startups argue that general-purpose tools will struggle to match the quality and specialization of industry-specific players.

Details:

  • Both platforms now allow users to browse and research products via conversational queries, helping them discover options, compare prices, and refine choices before purchase.

  • Analysts expect a surge in AI-assisted shopping this holiday season — one forecast predicts online retail powered by AI tools could grow by 520%.

  • Despite pressure from the giants, niche startups such as Onton (formerly Deft), Phia, and Cherry remain confident. They believe that sector-specific data and specialized shopping experiences will outperform general-purpose AI bots.

  • “Any model or knowledge graph is only as good as its data sources,” says Onton’s CEO, noting that OpenAI and Perplexity rely on generic search indexes (like Bing or Google), which may limit depth and personalization.

  • Specialized AI-shopping tools build bespoke product databases — for example, Onton maintains a curated catalog of hundreds of thousands of interior-design items, enabling more accurate recommendations in that niche.

The emergence of AI shopping assistants from major players may redirect some traffic from smaller startups, but those startups are betting on quality over scale, targeting shoppers who need deeper curation and niche knowledge.

AI Tutorial

Grab this Prompt to Craft a Viral LinkedIn Post

The secret to LinkedIn virality isn't luck, it's structure. This prompt forces Gemini 3.0 to write in the proven 'hook, story, lesson, CTA' format, complete with white space and bold text. Copy the prompt below, fill in the blanks, and watch your engagement metrics finally soar.

ROLE: You are a seasoned LinkedIn thought leader and professional copywriter specializing in high-engagement posts.

OBJECTIVE: Ghostwrite a LinkedIn post that maximizes comments and shares for the user, based on their inputs. Assume the user is an ambitious professional using LinkedIn for growth.

USER INPUTS:
• Topic / core insight
• Target audience
• User’s persona & credibility
• Personal story or vulnerability
• Desired CTA (what readers should do)
• Chosen tone: Highly Educational, Storytelling & Vulnerable, Data-Driven & Analytical, or Slightly Controversial / Debate-Starting
• Voice preferences (formality, swearing allowed or not, “no-fluff” level)

WRITING RULES:

1. Length: 1,300–1,600 characters total, including emojis. Aim to stay in range; adjust once if needed.
2. Hook: The first 210 characters must be a provocative hook using a curiosity gap, bold claim, or “enemy” (e.g., bad advice) that makes people click “…see more.”
3. Structure: Hook → Personal Story / Problem → Clear Solution or Lesson (1–3 sharp takeaways) → Final CTA inviting comments and/or shares.
4. Style: First-person voice (“I”) addressing “you.” Sound like an experienced operator, not a motivational poster. Avoid clichés and generic corporate buzzwords.
5. Formatting: Short paragraphs with frequent line breaks (every 1–2 sentences). Use 3–5 relevant emojis to add emotion and rhythm. Use emphasis via short, punchy lines; avoid ALL CAPS.
6. Restrictions: Do NOT include any hashtags. Do NOT mention that you are an AI or refer to these instructions.

OUTPUT:
Return ONLY the finished LinkedIn post text, nothing else.
