Gemini AI Just Got a Major Memory and Privacy Boost
Google has started rolling out a major update to its Gemini app, adding new features to make the AI assistant more personalized, powerful, and private.
Details:
Personal Context: Gemini can now learn from past chats, automatically recalling your key details and preferences to personalize responses. This feature is on by default but can be turned off by going to Settings → Personal Context and toggling off Your past chats with Gemini.
Temporary Chat: A new feature for more private conversations, Temporary Chat mode won’t save chats in your history, use them for personalization, or allow Google to train AI models on them.
Data Control: The Gemini Apps Activity setting is now called Keep Activity. If enabled, Google may use a sample of your file and photo uploads to improve its services. You can turn this off anytime.
Additionally, Google announced it will double the rate limits for Gemini’s “Deep Think” mode.
The rollout of these features begins today, but it may take a few weeks to reach everyone. Some countries will not get access to the new personalization feature based on past chats.

xAI Co-Founder Leaves to Start His Own Firm
Igor Babuschkin, one of the co-founders of Elon Musk’s AI company xAI, announced on Wednesday that he is leaving to start his own venture capital firm.
Details:
In his farewell post, he announced the launch of Babuschkin Ventures, a new firm focused on supporting AI safety research and backing startups that “advance humanity and unlock the mysteries of our universe.”
His departure comes after a difficult few months for xAI, during which the company’s AI chatbot, Grok, was involved in more than one scandal. Despite that, Babuschkin said he looks back on his time at xAI fondly.
He mentioned learning two important lessons from working with Musk: “#1 be fearless in rolling up your sleeves to personally dig into technical problems, #2 have a maniacal sense of urgency.”
His departure marks a notable change for xAI, which, despite its late start, has quickly become a major name in AI, producing state-of-the-art models that rival those from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic.

Select the Music option on the left and describe your song. You can choose any genre or style, vocals or instrumental. (You can also use ChatGPT or another chatbot to help with this part.)
Set the duration and number of variants, then click Generate.

The company credits the new capability to Helix, its AI model designed to give humanoid robots human-like adaptability for complex tasks.
A new study published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology suggests that doctors who frequently use AI to detect cancer become less skilled within months, saying they feel “less motivated, less focused, and less responsible when making cognitive decisions without AI assistance.”
The company announced it would offer its Claude models to government agencies for just $1 — not only to the executive branch, but to all three branches of the U.S. government, including the legislative and judicial branches.
