Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro at I/O Is the New King of AI Coding
Google has just rolled out Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition), an upgraded version of its flagship AI model that offers significantly improved coding capabilities, especially for building interactive web apps.
Details:
The model instantly jumped to #1 on the WebDev Arena Leaderboard, a benchmark measuring a model’s ability to create aesthetically pleasing and functional web apps. It also tops across all other LMArena leaderboards (coding, vision, creative writing, etc.).
Beyond frontend and UI development, the model also shows improvements in other coding tasks, such as code transformation, code editing, and developing complex agentic workflows.
In benchmarks, it stands out for its state-of-the-art performance in video understanding, achieving a score of 84.8% on the popular VideoMME benchmark.
The model is accessible via the Gemini API, Google’s Vertex AI, AI Studio platforms, and the Gemini chatbot app for both web and mobile.
The model’s release comes ahead of Google’s annual I/O developer conference, to be held on May 20, where Google is expected to go all out on AI, introducing new models, as well as AI-powered tools and platforms.

Microsoft Updates The Windows 11 Start Menu
Microsoft is giving Windows 11 a new look this month with a new Start menu and a host of AI-powered features.
Details:
The updated Start menu offers a more spacious layout, scrollable access to all apps, and category organization. It also includes a handy phone companion panel for synced iPhone and Android devices, showing recent contacts, messages, calls, and more.
New AI features:
Windows Settings AI: Users can ask the AI to adjust settings or troubleshoot issues.
Paint gets generative fill and digital sticker creation, Photos adds a “Relight” feature for lighting adjustments, and Snipping Tool introduces Perfect Screenshot and text copy tools.
File Explorer: Right-clicking files offers shortcuts for editing images or generating text summaries.
More Click to Do text and image actions, improved Windows search, and new accessibility improvements to assist blind and low-vision users with rich image descriptions for Narrator.
These updates will first roll out to Windows Insiders using Snapdragon X Copilot Plus PCs, like the latest Surface devices, before expanding to other users

NBC Sports is set to reintroduce the iconic voice of Jim Fagan to its NBA broadcasts using AI technology. Fagan, renowned for his narration during NBC's NBA coverage from 1990 to 2002, passed away in 2017.
With the consent of his family, NBC plans to feature his recreated voice in select title sequences, show openings, and promotional content.
The new TV experience introduces generative AI tools to enhance search and content recommendations. Users can now search for content using conversational phrases like “I want something funny and upbeat,” and the new recommendations on the homepage are more responsive to their moods and interests in real time.
Currently, the AI search is rolling out as an opt-in beta for iOS users.
U.S. lawmakers are advancing legislation to mandate the tracking of AI chip exports, particularly those produced by companies like Nvidia, to prevent unauthorized transfers to China. This move responds to reports of significant smuggling activities where advanced chips have reached China despite existing export controls.
Elon Musk's attorney, Marc Toberoff, has dismissed OpenAI's recent restructuring as a "transparent dodge."
They claim that "the founding mission remains betrayed" because "OpenAI will still be developing closed-source AI for the benefit of Altman, his investors, and Microsoft."
