Nvidia Says Next-Generation AI Data Centers Could Nearly Eliminate Water Use
Nvidia says its upcoming Rubin AI data center reference design has "eliminated massive amounts of power usage and pretty much all water usage" by replacing traditional cooling systems with a fully liquid-cooled architecture that operates at higher temperatures.
Details:
Nvidia claims switching to 100% liquid cooling will eliminate the need for conventional air-cooling systems that consume large amounts of water.
According to the company, the new design can reduce water usage “from roughly 2.6 million gallons per megawatt per year for conventional cooling-tower-based systems to near zero — up to a 100 percent reduction.”
The efficiency gains come from allowing AI servers to operate at significantly higher temperatures (up to 113°F / 45°C).
With the new system, "heat is captured directly at the chip and transported through liquid loops operating at much higher temperatures, allowing outdoor dry coolers to reject heat efficiently for much of the year."
Nvidia did not disclose the additional construction costs compared with conventional air-cooled facilities.

Meta Debuts AI-Powered Meta Glasses, Starting at $299
Meta has unveiled a new line of Meta Glasses, introducing a more affordable range of AI-powered smart glasses starting at $299.
Details:
While the devices continue to be manufactured in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, they are the first to carry Meta's own branding instead of the Ray-Ban or Oakley names.
The glasses do not include a display. Instead, they feature a built-in camera for capturing photos and videos, open-ear speakers for audio playback and calls, and a dedicated hardware button that launches the Meta AI assistant by default, with the option to customize it for other functions.
Powered by Meta AI, the glasses can answer questions, provide sports scores, recommend nearby restaurants, interpret what the wearer is looking at through the camera, and assist with everyday tasks using voice commands.
The launch comes amid intensifying competition in the smart glasses market, though according to Counterpoint Research, Meta and EssilorLuxottica still control more than 80% of the global smart glasses market.
