Apple Sues OpenAI Over Alleged Trade Secret Theft

Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and one of its top executives, alleging the AI company stole trade secrets as part of its effort to support the development of future AI hardware products.
Details:
The lawsuit names Tang Tan, OpenAI's Chief Hardware Officer and a former Apple executive, claiming he encouraged job candidates to share confidential Apple information during interviews.
Apple also alleges that former employees took proprietary materials and confidential data when leaving the company, including internal hardware technologies and manufacturing processes.
The legal dispute follows a shift in the relationship between the two companies. Although they partnered to integrate ChatGPT into Apple devices, OpenAI has since expanded into AI hardware following its acquisition of Jony Ive's startup.
OpenAI has denied the allegations, stating that it has no interest in competitors' trade secrets and remains focused on developing its own technology.
Apple is seeking damages, as well as an order to force OpenAI to stop using or disclosing its trade secrets and to return any confidential Apple materials.
TOGETHER WITH KALSHI
You already have a take on which AI lab ships next.
Claude or Gemini? OpenAI or Anthropic? GPT-7 before year-end or not? If you read tech newsletters, you've already formed opinions on all of it.
Kalshi has real-money markets on which AI model leads benchmarks this week, which lab ships AGI first, when Anthropic releases Mythos, whether OpenAI raises ChatGPT pricing, and which company has the best coding model at year-end. These aren't abstract questions β they're live markets with real money on both sides, moving as labs ship, benchmarks drop, and announcements land.
The edge belongs to whoever actually follows this space. Not the casual observer β the person who reads model cards, tracks evals, and notices when a new release outperforms the field before the mainstream press catches up.
That person has a genuine edge. If that's you, Kalshi lets you act on it.
Waze Is Getting Several New AI-Powered Features

The Google-owned navigation app has introduced several new AI-powered features, including Gemini integration, personalized navigation, conversational map updates, and new tools for motorcycle riders.
Details:
Waze now offers personalized route recommendations, using a driver's travel history and local traffic patterns to suggest routes that better match individual driving preferences.
The app is adding Gemini-powered search, allowing users to find destinations through natural language requests such as asking for nearby coffee shops, parking, or the cheapest gas stations.
Drivers can now report road closures and map updates conversationally, making it easier to notify Waze about changes using natural speech instead of manual reports.
Waze also introduced a new Motorcycle mode, which provides routes optimized for two-wheelers while highlighting hazards such as potholes, speed bumps, narrow bridges, and shoulder endings.
A new "Less Chatty" mode reduces the number of voice prompts during navigation while continuing to provide important alerts for turns and road hazards.
The updates are rolling out across Android and iOS, reflecting Google's broader effort to bring Gemini-powered AI features into more of its consumer products.

Claude vs Gemini. GPT-7 vs Llama 5. Which AI lab ships AGI first. These are live Kalshi markets with real money on both sides, updated in real time as releases land. The person who follows model cards and tracks evals has a genuine edge here. If that's you, trade it.

The latest in AI and Tech

The new AI image model focuses on both image generation and advanced editing. It shows improvement in text rendering, layout accuracy, and design quality, while introducing features such as precision editing, layer separation, multilingual support, and image replacement tools. Its release comes ahead of the company's expected launch of the Seedance 2.5 AI video model later this month.
Elon Musk praised Anthropic's Mythos and Fable models, calling the company the current leader in AI and saying he would never cut off its access to SpaceX's infrastructure despite being a competitor.
Meta was criticized for a feature launched last Tuesday that let users generate images using content from public Instagram accounts. It quickly sparked privacy concerns, especially due to the automatic opt-in. Now the company is discontinuing the feature and admitting it 'missed the mark.'
The company has withdrawn its endorsement of SWE-Bench Pro after finding that nearly 30% of the benchmark's coding tasks are flawed. According to the company, many tests are overly strict, ambiguous, or misleading because they were adapted from real software projects rather than designed as standardized AI evaluations.
The French AI startup has unveiled Robostral Navigate, its first AI model for robot navigation, capable of guiding wheeled, legged, and flying robots using only a single RGB camera. Trained entirely in simulated environments, the 8B-parameter model achieved a 79.4% success rate on the R2R-CE benchmark, outperforming several systems that rely on multiple cameras or depth sensors.
Thatβs a wrap!
