Google Expands AI Search Ads Globally

Google is bringing ads in its AI-powered Search experiences to new countries, betting that generative AI can open up new revenue opportunities even as growth in its core search advertising business slows.

Details:

  • Google is scaling ads in AI Mode to 10 new countries (including Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, and Singapore), with plans to launch in Brazil, Mexico, and the UK later this year.

  • In the US, Google is also launching what it calls “multi-turn ads,” allowing ads to appear directly within follow-up queries in AI Mode when a search or conversation has “commercial relevance.”

  • Alphabet reported $127.6 billion in revenue for the third quarter, up 25% year over year. However, Google Search revenue grew 12%, down from 17% in the previous quarter and 19% in the first quarter.

  • According to Google Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler, search ad revenue growth slowed in the third quarter of 2026 because user queries are migrating to AI Overviews and AI Mode, which suffer from “lower monetization.”

Despite that, Schindler said he felt “very good about our trajectory” with an AI-focused version of the search engine.

Gemini Now Lets You Generate and Edit Documents Directly in Chats

Google has expanded Gemini’s file creation capabilities, allowing users to generate, preview, and edit PDFs, Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code directly inside Gemini chats.

Details:

  • Files can be expanded into a full-screen editing view, where users can highlight specific sections of a document and ask Gemini questions or request edits. For example, selecting a table and asking Gemini to turn it into a graph.

  • PDF previews and editing are supported on both web and mobile. Other file formats are currently limited to the web version.

  • The feature is now available to all Gemini users.

Google had already introduced the ability to generate and download files through Gemini earlier this year, but now you can tweak those files without leaving the Gemini app.
