Google Expands Its AI to Cars, TVs, Headsets

Google is preparing to integrate its Gemini AI assistant into a variety of devices beyond phones, including Google TV, Android Auto, Wear OS smartwatches, and even Samsung's upcoming Android XR headset.

Details:

  • Google TV: Later this year, you’ll be able to ask Gemini for movie recommendations, kid-friendly educational content, or quick answers to questions like “Can you explain the solar system to my first grader?”

  • Android Auto: In the coming months, Gemini will upgrade the current Google voice assistant by “understanding what you want while you’re driving, through natural conversations.” It will help drivers not only find the best route but also provide assistance along the way—like locating charging stations, summarizing messages, and more.

  • Wear OS: Gemini will launch on Wear OS in the coming months, offering natural, conversational help on smartwatches, making it easier to ask questions without fumbling with tiny screens.

  • Android XR: Samsung’s first Android XR headset will also feature Gemini, with availability expected later this year.

While timelines remain vague, the announcement hints at exciting ways Gemini aims to make everyday interactions smarter and more seamless. And this is just a warm-up—Google shared the news during The Android Show, a mini Android-focused event ahead of next week’s Google I/O, where we can expect even more Gemini AI announcements.

TikTok Adds New Tool to Animate Still Images with AI

TikTok has introduced a new feature called "AI Alive" that transforms photos into short videos with "movement, atmospheric, and creative effects."

Details:

  • The tool is available in TikTok’s Story Camera, where users can upload a photo and specify how they want it animated.

  • TikTok applies moderation technology to review photos, prompts, and generated videos before they are displayed or posted. Videos will also be labeled as AI-generated and include metadata to ensure transparency.

  • This isn’t the first in-app AI tool from TikTok, as it introduced a text-to-image AI generator a few years ago.

While the results may not always align perfectly with complex prompts, and there are certainly better AI video generators out there, this new tool makes AI video creation more accessible by being integrated into the TikTok app, which boasts around two billion users worldwide.
