Grokipedia Is Now Live

Elon Musk’s xAI unveiled version 0.1 of Grokpedia, an AI-powered encyclopedia that launched with around 880,000 machine-written entries and a minimalist search interface.

Details:

• Grokpedia leverages xAI’s Grok to synthesize knowledge from diverse sources, prioritizing what Musk calls “maximum truth-seeking” and minimizing human subjectivity.

• He argues that Wikipedia’s reliance on volunteer editors allows personal biases to distort entries on controversial topics, making the platform ideologically skewed.

• Musk says version 1.0 is in development and promises it will be 10 times better, though he maintains that version 0.1 is already superior to Wikipedia.

• The project has drawn concern since it was revealed in late September, as LLMs are known to occasionally generate false “facts,” casting doubt on their ability to verify information accurately.

While some welcome an alternative, others question potential bias, claiming that Grokpedia’s entries tend to align with Musk’s personal views. Regardless, it represents new competition for Wikipedia, which has struggled with its content being used to train AI systems and recently reported an 8% year-over-year decline in human visits to its website.

Claude Can Now Be Integrated Directly With Microsoft Excel

Anthropic just announced a suite of upgrades for Claude, including an integration with Microsoft Excel, six new connectors and six finance-oriented agentic skills.

Details:

• Claude for Excel appears as a sidebar that can analyze sheets, modify cells, create new workbooks, and explain every action with links to referenced cells to keep users in control.

• Six new MCP-based connectors let Claude tap into third-party data: Aiera for earnings call transcripts; Chronograph for operational and financial information; Egnyte for secure search; LSEG for live market data; Moody’s for credit ratings, research, and company data; and MT Newswires for real-time news on financial markets and economies.

• Anthropic introduced six agent skills for finance teams including comparable company analysis, discounted cash flow models with WACC and sensitivity tables, due diligence data packs into Excel, company teasers/profiles, earnings analyses, and initiating coverage reports.

The Excel integration builds on Claude’s existing integration with Microsoft 365 and is available in beta for Max, Enterprise, and Teams users, with wider availability expected later. All new skills are also rolling out in preview for the same user tiers.

How to transcribe audio for free with Google Gemini

Transcribing audio into text has become much easier thanks to AI tools, Google Gemini now offers a free option for files up to 10 minutes long.

Here’s how:

1. Make sure you are using the latest version of Google Gemini or visit the Google Gemini website.

2. Select the "+" button and choose "Upload files" in the browser or "Files" in the app version.

3. Browse your device and select the audio file you want to transcribe. Gemini supports MP3, AAC, and WAV formats. Once selected, the file will load into Gemini.

4. Enter a prompt such as "transcribe this speech" and let Gemini start working. If you receive an error, try entering "try again" and it should process the file successfully.

5. Once the transcription is ready, you’ll notice it may include filler words like "uhms" and "ahs". To clean it up, prompt Gemini with phrases like "can you clean it up?" or "remove the ums," and it will provide a polished version of the transcript.
