OpenAI Outlines Vision for a Superintelligence Future
OpenAI has released a policy paper titled "Industrial Policy for the Intelligence Age," detailing how governments should prepare for a world shaped by superintelligent AI.
Details:
The company proposes a public wealth fund to distribute AI-driven economic gains directly to citizens, alongside higher taxes on capital gains and corporate AI profits.
It suggests testing a four-day workweek with no pay cuts, arguing that AI-driven productivity could support shorter working hours.
OpenAI warns of risks like job losses, power concentration, and misuse, even acknowledging that companies like itself could benefit disproportionately.
The paper calls for universal access to AI, comparing it to essential resources like electricity or literacy for full economic participation.
It also emphasizes stronger safeguards, including oversight systems, global cooperation, and tools to prevent misuse in areas like cybersecurity and bio risks.
OpenAI was founded as a nonprofit with a mission to ensure AI benefits all of humanity, but its recent shift to a for-profit model has drawn criticism, with many questioning whether its need to grow and fulfill its obligations to shareholders will conflict with that mission. Meta is preparing a new generation of AI models and plans to release some versions as open source, while keeping others closed.

The upcoming models will be the first developed under Alexandr Wang, with Meta aiming to eventually release open-source versions for developers.
The company plans a hybrid strategy, keeping its most powerful models proprietary while sharing smaller or safer versions publicly.
Meta believes open access can help it attract developers globally, even if its top-tier models remain closed for competitive reasons.
The company's strategy is to focus on consumers, aiming to distribute its models as widely as possible around the world, a strategy that contrasts with competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI, which are increasingly focused on delivering their models to governments and enterprises.

How to use the new Google AI Edge Eloquent app
Google's new AI dictation app provides polished speech-to-text transcriptions for free with no usage limits.
Download the Google AI Edge Eloquent app on the App Store. (currently available on iOS only, with Android support coming soon).
When you launch the app for the first time, it will download the AI models it needs. After that, tap the mic button on the home page (Record tab) to start dictating.
The app will record everything you say and display a live transcription as you speak.
When you hit pause, the app automatically filters out filler words like "um" and "ah" and polishes the text.
Tap the stop button to receive a polished draft.
Tap the copy button next to "Cleaned up text" to copy it to your clipboard, or use the pencil icon to edit the output.
Below the transcript are options like "Key points," "Formal," "Short," and "Long" to transform the text.
To improve the app’s accuracy for your speeches, you can connect it to your Gmail account or manually add names and words you regularly use in the Dictionaries tab.
The app keeps a history of all transcription sessions and lets you search through them. It also shows words dictated in the last session, your words-per-minute speed, and total words spoken.
Note: The Google AI Edge Eloquent app supports English dictation and is available on the Apple App Store everywhere except the UK, Switzerland, and the European Economic Area (EEA), where it is still awaiting regulatory approval.
