AI Detects Pancreatic Cancer Years Before It Shows Up, Study Finds
A new study shows that an AI model may be able to detect pancreatic cancer long before it becomes visible on scans, offering a potential breakthrough for one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

The REDMOD model, developed by researchers at the Mayo Clinic, can help specialists detect pancreatic cancer on routine abdominal CT scans up to three years before clinical diagnosis by identifying subtle signs of disease before tumors are visible.
Researchers used the model to analyze nearly 2,000 CT scans (all originally interpreted as normal by radiologists) and it correctly identified 73% of prediagnostic cancers at a median of about 16 months before diagnosis, nearly double the detection rate of specialists reviewing the same scans.
The gap was even larger in scans taken more than two years before diagnosis, where the AI identified 68% of cases versus 23% for radiologists.
Researchers say the tool could help flag high-risk patients earlier, potentially allowing for treatment when it is still possible. This matters because pancreatic cancer is typically diagnosed late, with over 85% of cases found at advanced stages, contributing to low survival rates.

Gemini Can Now Generate Files, Including Microsoft Word and LaTeX Documents
You can now ask the Gemini app to directly generate “downloadable and ready-to-share files.”
Details:
Users describe what they want through text prompts, specifying both the content and the file format, and Gemini will generate a ready-to-download file directly in the chat.
The Gemini app supports creating Google Workspace files (Docs, Sheets, and Slides), Microsoft Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PDFs, CSV, Markdown, LaTeX, TXT, and RTF.
The feature is rolling out worldwide to all Gemini app users.
"Instead of copying, pasting and reformatting, this update will allow you to easily move your work into different applications," Google said.

Google Translate's AI Features You Should Know About
On top of standard text translation, Google Translate's app includes a few features worth knowing about that leverage Google's Gemini models for more accurate and useful translations:
Live Translate (it works in more than 70 languages)
This feature allows you to have conversations in real time with audio and on-screen translations.
Tap "Live translate," select the two languages, and start talking.
Google Translate will automatically switch between the two languages you and your language partner are speaking, intelligently detecting conversational pauses, accents, and intonations.
You'll hear the translation out loud and see a transcript of the conversation in both languages on your screen.
Transcribe speech
Choose the source and target languages.
Tap the microphone icon and speak.
The app will transcribe what you say in the target language.
Translate Images
Choose the languages you want to translate to and from.
Tap the camera icon.
Aim your camera at the sign, menu, or document you want translated. You can also select an image from your gallery.
The translation will appear superimposed over the image.
