Instagram CEO Warns AI Will Break Visual Trust Online

Instagram head Adam Mosseri says AI is pushing the internet toward a point where seeing is no longer believing, marking a significant shift in how we consume online content.
Details:
Mosseri argues that AI makes authenticity infinitely reproducible, with deepfakes and AI-generated photos and videos becoming indistinguishable from real content, filling social feeds with what he calls “synthetic everything.”
He says the classic polished Instagram aesthetic is already fading, replaced by stories and DMs where blurry, shaky, and imperfect content feels more real to users.
In a world where perfection is easy to generate, Mosseri believes imperfection becomes proof of authenticity, shifting the bar from “can you create?” to “can you create something only you could make?”
The biggest challenge, he says, is psychological: humans are wired to trust their eyes, but AI will force people to default to skepticism and focus more on who is sharing content and why.
Mosseri outlines Instagram’s response, which includes labeling AI-generated content, verifying authentic media, adding credibility signals to accounts, and ranking originality higher in feeds.
His view echoes a warning made as far back as 2017 by GAN co-inventor Ian Goodfellow: humanity’s long ability to trust photos and videos was a historical fluke, and AI is now bringing that era to an end.

Pickle Unveils “Soul Computer” AR Glasses That Claim to Remember Your Life

California startup Pickle has launched Pickle 1, AI-powered augmented reality glasses it calls a “soul computer,” promising context-aware assistance and long-term memory of what users see and do.
Details:
Pickle 1 is designed to anticipate user needs instead of waiting for voice commands, using real-time context from the wearer’s environment.
The glasses run on Pickle OS, which continuously gathers visual and interaction data into what the company describes as a single memory cluster, with claims of “infinite memory.”
Interaction happens through conversational avatars in the display, with a fingerprint scanner in the frame to ensure only the owner can unlock and use the device.
The glasses weigh 68 grams, feature an aluminum build, a full-color display, and run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, with up to 12 hours of battery life.
Pickle says user data is encrypted by default and decrypted only inside a hardware-isolated enclave, with no third-party app data used for training.
Pickle 1 is available for pre-order in the U.S. for $799, with deliveries expected in the second quarter of the year.
