Report Suggests China-Linked Group May Have Accessed Anthropic’s Mythos AI

U.S. officials reportedly had suspicions that a China-linked group may have gained access to Anthropic's Mythos-level models, a concern that could have contributed to the White House's decision to impose export restrictions on them.

Details:

  • If confirmed, such access could raise significant national security concerns, given Mythos’ reported capabilities in areas such as cybersecurity and vulnerability discovery.

  • Officials may also be worried about the possibility of AI distillation, a process in which a less capable model learns from a more advanced one in an attempt to replicate its behavior and capabilities.

  • The report follows previous incidents involving Mythos, including claims that unauthorized users gained access to the model before its official release.

The White House has not publicly confirmed that China-related concerns were a factor behind the export restrictions. Public comments from administration officials have instead focused on reports that users may have found ways to bypass some of the models' safety protections, a claim Anthropic disputes.

Pokémon Go Player Data Helped Train AI That Could Be Used by Military Drones

Location scans collected from Pokémon Go players have been used to train AI systems that could potentially help military drones find their targets in war zones.

Details:

  • Pokémon Go introduced an optional feature that allowed players to scan real-world locations with their smartphones in exchange for in-game rewards.

  • These scans were collected by Niantic and later used to train AI models designed to recognize and interpret physical spaces. The technology is now being developed by Niantic Spatial, which focuses on building AI systems that can understand the real world through visual data.

  • Niantic Spatial has partnered with Vantor, a company that develops navigation and spatial awareness software for drones, including systems used by military organizations.

  • The goal of the partnership is to help drones and autonomous systems navigate in environments where GPS signals are unavailable, jammed, or spoofed.

Privacy advocates have raised concerns about consumer-generated data being repurposed for military-related applications, arguing that many users may not have anticipated such uses when contributing scans.

Turn Your Photos into Stunning Birthday Cards with AI

  1. Go to ChatGPT and upload your photo.

  2. Then add this prompt:

Create a professional luxury birthday poster in a 3:4 portrait ratio. The entire frame is filled with a premium off-white textured wall, with a large number "[AGE]" precisely carved into it with visible depth and realistic inner shadows.

Inside the number:

  • Soft blue balloons

  • Subtle white flowers

  • Elegant bouquet arrangement with premium styling

A happy [SUBJECT] with preserved facial features, dressed in [OUTFIT], laughing and posing naturally. Their face, shoulders, one hand, and one foot extend outside the number creating a realistic 3D pop-out effect.

Lighting and quality:

  • Warm cinematic sunlight from one side with a soft rim light

  • Photorealistic premium studio photography, ultra realistic and sharp throughout

Typography engraved on the wall: [NAME], CHAPTER [AGE], 365 MORE DAYS OF WONDER. Clean minimalist layout, luxury magazine cover aesthetic, high-end art direction, realistic shadows, and natural colors. Avoid fake shadows, fake lighting, and AI artifacts.

Elon Musk has become the first person in history to surpass a $1 trillion net worth, driven largely by the successful public debut of SpaceX. Shares of the company rose more than 19% on their first day of trading, pushing the value of Musk’s stake to nearly $870 billion. Combined with his holdings in Tesla, worth roughly $278 billion, Musk’s ownership in the two companies alone now exceeds $1.1 trillion.

The Chinese company's new open-source coding model comes with substantial improvements in areas such as coding and agent performance, instruction following, and reasoning efficiency, achieving 30% lower reasoning-token usage compared to its predecessor.

A new report claims frustration is mounting inside Meta's recently formed Applied AI division, a team of roughly 6,500 employees created to support the company's AI ambitions. Tensions boiled over this week when an employee disrupted an internal livestream with an angry outburst directed at a senior AI executive, a symptom of broader dissatisfaction among workers who say they were reassigned into the unit with little choice.

The investigation is said to cover a wide range of issues, including how ChatGPT interacts with users, the handling of health-related information, and concerns around so-called “model sycophancy,” where AI systems may reinforce or validate problematic user beliefs.

A longtime Google security leader has resigned, citing concerns over the company’s growing ties to the U.S. military and what he described as a broader shift away from its previous principles. René Mayrhofer, a director responsible for Android platform security, said he could no longer support Google’s direction after it signed an agreement allowing the U.S. Department of Defense to use its AI models for classified work.
